First impressions of the FootJoy Fuel Sport

I wouldn’t usually like a pink and blue colour scheme in golf shoes, but this design didn’t take long to tickle my fancy. It certainly stands out on this predominantly white model.

When I slipped the shoes on, they felt very stable and protective. The shape of the shoe is very fixed and this helps in different weather conditions.

I’m not one of those people who like to push boundaries with colour and style on the golf course, but if you are, these golf shoes are for you.

The spikeless bottom of the shoe was very comfortable when I slipped them on which was another positive.

On-course testing

While testing these golf shoes at Alwoodley, you could feel how breathable they were. There was a lot of space in the shoe – and this wasn’t because I take a size 11.

FootJoy installed Breathable Performance Mesh in the Fuel Sport shoes for this very reason.

There was a touch of discomfort in my right foot, as the top of the shoe rubbed against my ankle at times.

This was the only feature that deprived the FootJoy Fuel Sports of a five-star rating. For the majority of the round, I was comfortable without any niggles.

The Tour Proven Traction is meant to provide “optimal support and control.” I experienced this for the most part, but there was that hint of discomfort in my right foot.

Having said that, my performance wasn’t hindered by this issue and I felt stable with each swing. This was thanks to FootJoy’s overall quality.

Stratolite foam is meant to deliver lightweight cushioning to guarantee comfort and walkability and I felt the underfoot benefit of this feature.

I liked the full-rounded toe character that fits across the forefoot and instep. This created a very athletic profile and I think this will appeal to many golfers.

Breathability is a keyphrase I’d emphasise in this review and this is an important feature when wearing this shoe in both favourable and unfavourable conditions.

A design as lightly coloured as this could succumb to muddy conditions, but this is a small price to pay for what is a solid and striking golf shoe.

The 19th hole

With the spikeless design, the FootJoy Fuel Sport golf shoes could definitely be worn in other sporting contexts. The underfoot comfort and design contribute to this.
