FootJoy Confetti Print Pique Polo Shirt review: NCG Summary

NCG SUMMARY

This is an appealing and well-constructed polo shirt from FootJoy. Available in a number of colourful designs, the technology it’s designed with makes it a joy to wear. It comes highly recommended.

PROS

  • Striking design.
  • Comfortable to wear.
  • Good range of colours.
  • Easy to care for.

CONS

  • May be a little colourful for some.

First Impressions

When I first unwrapped this new polo shirt from FootJoy it certainly looked pretty striking. This is from their ‘Print’ range of polo shirts and makes a welcome change from ‘camo’ which has rather flooded the golfing market in my view.

I tested the version in violet, which is one of four colour options available. I particularly liked this colour and also the ‘true blue’ but, in truth, all the colours look pretty good. I would say that close up the pattern does look rather loud.

Don’t let that put you off – because it looks a touch quieter once you’ve put it on. The ProDry Stretch Pique fabric felt lightweight and stretchy to the touch. It’s made from 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex; the latter accounting for the stretchiness. There’s a three-button-tailored collar which looks like it will hold its shape nicely. It also has double-stitched seams for added durability and has an anti-microbial finish which helps inhibit odor build up.

On The Course

I’m about 173 cm tall and weigh 74 kg with an average (ie non-athletic) shape. In polo shirts, I flirt between a medium and a large. I’m pleased to report that the medium size fits just right, perhaps courtesy of the stretch in the fabric.

The shirt was really comfortable next to the skin and to swing in. It fitted closely, but there was no restriction when swinging, and so it was an absolute pleasure to wear. I’ve generally worn it under a midlayer which works well. The moisture-wicking technology has ensured that I’ve remained cool and dry, but then the Yorkshire temperatures so far this year haven’t yet really tested that technology!

I’ve worn this shirt perhaps half a dozen times. The easy care fabric washes well and there’s no need for ironing.

The 19th hole

There’s a single contrasting FJ logo on the upper back of the shirt. That wasn’t any deterrent for me wearing the Confetti Print Pique on a recent trip to London to see Abba Voyage, the virtual concert residency by the Swedish pop combo (my wife’s a fan).

And the moisture-wicking technology performed admirably on that occasion as we danced the night away. The only disappointment is that I can’t show photographic evidence because cameras are banned at that event.

Although I have mostly worn this shirt for golf, I have enjoyed wearing the print pattern away from the course; such is the comfort and fit. So I think this is a polo that will get plenty of use over the summer. It’s comfortable, smart and stylish. Now I’m off to order another one in blue!
