Equipment: Cleveland RTX-3 wedges launched

New technologies in the RTX-3 will help players become more consistent with their distance control and gain more spin

Cleveland have launched the RTX-3 wedges which follow on from the hugely successful RTx 2.0 as used by players such as Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry.

The message behind RTX-3 is that Cleveland say they will help golfers get the ball closer to the whole more often thanks to a raft of new technologies.

Cleveland

Cleveland say most golfers tend to hit the ball closer to the toe of a wedge yet the centre of gravity is actually nearer to to heel.

So in a bit to get players finding the sweetspot more often the CG has been moved further away from the heel and nearer to the hitting area.

They have done this by saving 9g of weight by shortening the hosel and adding a micro cavity in the hosel itself.

This 9g of weight has been used to put the centre of gravity nearer to the middle of the club face.

Cleveland
Cleveland say this has improved the dispersion rates massively – cutting in half the dispersion rate from the RTX 2.0 model.

Also new in RTX-3 are new V sole grinds which will interact with the turf better meaning less turf will come into contact with the face so no head speed or distance are lost.

Another huge factor behind the improved performance of RTX-3 is the new grooves which are deeper and slightly narrower so two more grooves can be fit on the face.

Cleveland
Cleveland say a key factor which sets their grooves apart is the way they are filled with plastic before polishing to ensure they don’t get worn away at all.

Available in three different grinds – V-LG (•), V-MG (••) and V-FG (•••) and in two different finishes: the classic Tour Satin, and ultra-durable Black Satin for golfer looking for reduced glare.

ClevelandA raw finish will be introduced in the new year.

The standard shaft is True Temper Dynamic Gold steel (wedge flex) and the standard grip is the Cleveland Blue Cap by Lamkin.

“After spending more than two years developing these wedges, Cleveland Golf is very proud with the finished product,” said John Rae, Vice President of Research & Development.

“Our testing proves the three key technologies in RTX-3 can help golfers get the ball closer to the hole, a tremendous benefit for any player that supports Cleveland Golf’s unmatched commitment to the short game.”
