Wow. What a week that was! Who had Phil Mickelson at 300/1? As we try to recover from post-major blues, we are lucky to be treated to a top tournament this week with the Charles Schwab Challenge. Last year Daniel Berger broke a long winless run at this event in a tense play-off with Collin Morikawa, so expect plenty of drama at this challenging track. Venue: Colonial Country Club, Texas, USA
Date: May 27-30, 2021
Course stats: Par 70; 7,204 yards
Course summary: Colonial is a short, tight, tree-lined track that requires accuracy and consistency at every turn. The aptly named ‘Horrible Horseshoe’ lurks from holes three to five, with water hazards and copious bunkers adding further challenge. Small, elevated greens are difficult to find, with windy conditions expected to make players work for the win this week.

Who will win the Charles Schwab Challenge?
Bazza’s Banker: Corey Conners @ 25/1 with Bet365
This is a course that screams ‘Corey Conners’, as there are few on the PGA Tour who can rival the Canadian for accuracy and ball-striking. Conners stormed to an opening 67 at Kiawah Island, and although the rounds to follow were not without fault, he battled with great determination to secure a tie for 17th. In fact, that performance set him up perfectly for this challenge, as he ranked 9th for SG: Off-the-tee and 15th for SG: Tee-to-green at the PGA Championship. With seven top-10 finishes so far this season, Conners is a must-have on any bet slip this week.
The outsider: Joaquin Niemann @ 33/1 with Bet365
Niemann produced an under the radar, and perhaps under appreciated performance at Kiawah Island last week, and should have a great chance at a course where he has yet to finish outside the top-32. Niemann produced three rounds at par or better at the PGA Championship, an achievement unmatched by many, and with a best finish of 8th at Colonial in 2018 he has a strong claim here. Last week the Chilean ranked 16th for SG: Off-the-tee, : and 9th for SG: Putting, both of which are important measures here. At a reasonable price, he certainly has the potential to better his two runner-up finishes this season.
The long shot: Brian Harman @ 45/1 with Bet365
While Harman will surely be disappointed with a missed cut at the PGA Championship, this is a venue that we know will suit him and based on his recent performances he has a great chance at a big price. Harman has finished in the top-31 on his previous eight starts here, and inside the top-15 on three of those occasions. A best finish of 7th in 2017 is encouraging, but it is his recent performances on the PGA Tour that interest me most. In the last three months, Harman ranks 24th for SG: Off-the-tee, 3rd for SG: Around-the-green, 6th for SG: Putting and 1st for SG: Total, outperforming some of the top names in world golf in this time period. At a reasonable price, Harman is certainly worth an each-way punt based on those numbers.
