Callaway Chrome Soft X ball launched
A firmer, lower-launching version of Callaway's most popular golf ball. Meet the Chrome Soft X
The Callaway Chrome Soft X forms part of the brands performance ball line-up for 2017.
The original Chrome Soft ball has arguably been Callaway’s best-selling and performing golf ball.
It struck a chord with tour players and club golfers alike.
Phil Mickelson was very quick to rave about the ball and club golfers were very keen on the performance – and the price tag.
At just over £30 a dozen the Chrome Soft gave players a durable, top-performing, tour-level golf ball that wasn’t hitting the wallet too hard.
So what can we expect from the all-new Chrome Soft X?
Well, the brand say the Callaway Chrome Soft X will feel a touch firmer than the original model and launch a bit lower for a more penetrating flight.
What’s the technology in the Callaway Chrome Soft X?
It’s the same four-piece ball construction as the original Chrome Soft with a two-layer core, spin regulating mantle and soft urethane cover.
The main difference lies in Chrome Soft X’s firmer core and cover combination, which Callaway say promotes more ball speed off the tee, more spin through-the-bag, and a piercing but workable ball flight.
Which tour players will use the Callaway Chrome Soft X?
That remains to be seen but Callaway Staffers who currently play a Chrome Soft include Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jim Furyk, Danny Willett, Thomas Pieters, Daniel Berger and Alex Noren.
For those looking for an even softer feeling golf ball, Callaway have updated their popular Supersoft ball for 2016.
It’s the company’s lowest compression golf ball and aims to promote faster ball speeds and low spin for longer, straighter flights on full shots.
The new Supersoft is more aerodynamic than the original model and theres a new cover which Callaway say increases softness for better feel and more shot-stopping wedge spin.
For distance-seekers, there’s also the Warbird which Callaway say will launch high and carry far thanks to a highly compressible energy core.
