WITB: Bernd Wiesberger – Shenzhen International

The Austrian is a long-time Titleist staffer. See which clubs helped him overcome Tommy Fleetwood in a play-off at Genzon...

Bernd Wiesberger has been one of the most consistent performers on the European Tour in recent years. He hasn’t missed a cut since the 2016 PGA Championship.

One criticism would be that he gets into contention a lot without winning. But he’s now got four European Tour wins to his name and at aged 31, he could be coming into the prime of his career.

Wiesberger is one of Titleist’s main men on the European Tour and has always been fairly quick to put their latest gear into play.

He uses the 917 driver in the more compact D3 head, a strong 917 3-wood and a 915 2-hybrid.

There’s a nice mix of 716 irons on the go here with the T-MB 3-iron, 4-6 in the CBs and 7-9 in the stunning bladed MBs.

If there are any amateur players out there with MBs from 3-9 on the go then just look in the bag of 95 percent of tour players and you’ll see them, like Wiesberger, opting for a bit more forgiveness at the top-end of the bag.

It’s no surprise to see three Vokey SM6 wedges in play and Wiesberger is one of a few players who has switched from the Pro V1x golf ball to the Pro V1.

The new Pro V1 is longer off the tee than previous models which is one of the reasons a few have made the switch.

Wiesberger is also one of the poster boys for Under Armour on the European Tour and has been wearing their clothing for a number of years.

But he keeps it Achushnet when it comes to footwear with the FootJoy Pro/SL as worn by Adam Scott, Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Adam Johnston and dozens more.

“I’m feeling a bit relieved now I have to say,” Wiesberger said.

“I’ve had a stretch of really good events the last couple of months and it’s really nice to have a trophy again.

“We have really good players out here, all up for it, playing well and throwing a lot at me. At the end of the day I’m just glad I got myself into the spot where I could play for the title.”
