Alfred Dunhill Championship Fantasy Golf picks
The European Tour remains in South Africa this week as they head to Leopard Country Club following Louis Oosthuizen’s emotional victory at last week’s South African Open.
It’s the first time the tour has visited the course in over a year after the event was left off the schedule in 2018. It’s worth noting that the last five winners have been South African.
The aim of our fantasy game this year is to pick the right players to match the RankBuster. This week’s is set at 212 so who can you fit in your team to beat it? Here are my Alfred Dunhill Championship Fantasy Golf picks.
Charl Schwartzel
Fantasy Rank: 2
Schwartzel is a pretty safe pick for this week’s event as he boasts an impressive record. The South African has won three out of the last five and has also has a T4 finish at Leopard Creek. His lowest finish in that period has been a T26 finish in 2014.
The 34-year-old also comes off the back of a T3 finish at the South African Open so comes into the event in fine form as he looks for his fourth victory in six attempts.
Jaco Van Zyl
Fantasy Rank: 26
I picked Van Zyl for last week’s event and he delivered a below average T37. However, the South African has made the cut on his last three starts at this event, including a T8 finish in his last start in 2015.
Andilson Da Silva
Fantasy Rank: 34
The Brazilian has had a good start to the 2019 season with three finishes inside the top 30 and finished T29 at Glendower last week.
The 46-year-old narrowly missed the cut at this event last time out, hopefully a mixture of course knowledge and form will see him through to the weekend.
David Drysdale
Fantasy Rank: 36
The Scot hasn’t been in the best form of late but has an impressive record at Leopard Creek with five top 25 finishes in his last five starts at the tournament.
However, be warned as he withdrew from last week’s event.
Jack Sing Brar
Fantasy Rank: 59
The European Tour rookie has missed two out of three cuts so far this year but also has a T30 finish in his first event of the season at the Hong Kong Open.
The Englishman comes into the event as a sleeper but could prove a wise choice if you’re looking for to make up ground on your competitors.
Bryce Easton
Fantasy Rank: 65
Like our betting expert Keel Timmins I like the look of Easton as a long shot for the week. The South African had an impressive T3 finish last week with a final round off 66 propelling him up the leaderboard.
Last week’s picks: Matt Wallace (T15), Branden Grace (T7), Jaco Van Zyl (T37), Jacques Blaauw (T65), Justin Walters (CUT), Joe Dean (CUT)

Why it’s time we all stopped moaning about our equipment
Matthew Beedle
Matthew has been playing golf since he was around 13 and took up the game at a local nine-hole municipal course with his friends before joining Pontefract & District Golf Club just over the hedge.
Still a member of Pontefract with a handicap of 3, he currently sits on the board of directors to help with digital and marketing initiatives in order to improve membership and visitor income.
Matthew graduated university with a First Class in Sports Journalism from Leeds Trinity University and has been working in the golf industry since graduating.
NCG’s social media & marketing manager, Matthew’s main job role is to increase website traffic to the National Club Golfer website via our email and social media channels as well as driving entries to grow our NCG Top 100s Tour events amongst other tasks.
Not one to change his equipment too often, Matthew currently plays the TaylorMade M2 driver which has lasted the test of time in his bag. Elsewhere, you’ll find him using the TaylorMade Stealth 2 three-wood with a Ping G425 Crossover 2-iron to aid his long game.
Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.
Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
