2022 Mallorca Golf Open golf betting tips

The Banker: Andy Sullivan @ 30/1 with Bet365

Andy Sullivan on his day is right up there with the best on the DP World Tour, especially when it comes to birdie-fests. While we do not yet know how tough Son Muntaner will play, a resort course sounds right up his street.

In a field that lacks depth, the playing field certainly starts to tilt in the favour of someone that has won before, and with 7-stroke and 9-stroke victories in his last two wins, Sullivan knows how to pull away from a pack.

Last week the Englishman ranked 5th in strokes gained approach and strokes gained tee-to-green. That’s his second top-5 effort in both categories, in his past five starts. This suggests the Sullivan is finding form in his long game at the very best time, and he can make use of that in an event like this.

Sullivan has been threatening to do something big for a while now, and while he hasn’t had a recent victory, this looks a perfect opportunity for him to push up the Race to Dubai Rankings towards the season-ending championship. The Englishman has a lot of work to do to manage the latter, but with this event and the Portugal Masters coming up, he has every chance of doing just that.

At his best, Sullivan is a Ryder Cup player and a four-time DP World Tour winner, and he will look to show that this week, in a field that is lacking quality, and where almost everyone has the same knowledge of the course.

The Each-Way Play: Nicolai Hojgaard @ 40/1 with Bet365

On the face of it, Nicolai Hojgaard is struggling to keep up with his brother in terms of consistency, but get him on the right course and he can be every bit as effective. We still don’t know whether this course is going to provide what he needs, which is a low-scoring, driver-heavy event, but it looks like it might.

Hojgaard led the field in strokes gained off the tee last week at a claustrophobic Valderrama, which is a great sign given that course really isn’t for him, and if he can produce that sort of performance again with the driver, he should be right in contention here.

His form figures don’t look great, with three missed cuts and nothing better than a 27th over the past two months, but closer inspection should give more reason for optimism.

He finished 27th at the Italian Open but was placed better going into the weekend, sitting 12th after round one, and 11th after round two in his title defence, and he was also 12th at halfway in France, where he eventually fell to 60th. Like last week, France didn’t look like the best test for him, but he got four rounds under his belt in both, and that’s a good sign ahead of this week, where it will get easier.

The Long Shot: Maverick Antcliff @ 175/1 with Bet365

Maverick Antcliff finished 21st last week which is his first top-25 since last year’s Porsche European Open. This is an incredibly encouraging sign as he gets another week in Spain where he has shown positive signs in the past.

The Australian ranked 2nd in strokes gained approach at Valderrama, meaning he’s been 4th twice and 2nd one in strokes gained approach the past three week. Now he gets to stay in a part of Europe he has enjoyed so far.

Antcliff finished 2nd at the Canary Islands Championship last year, and although he only finished 63rd at the Catalunya Championship, he was 9th at the halfway stage.

Given he’s been top-4 in strokes gained approach and top-15 in each of the past three weeks in strokes gained tee-to-green, including leading the field last week, there looks to be good things on the horizon at the right time for Antcliff, who has yet to break through on the DP World Tour.

Take a chance on him at 200-1, given his superb ball-striking numbers.
