The European Tour has been renamed to reflect its global status. Here's what we know so far

The European Tour has been renamed the DP World Tour.

The change will take place from the 2022 season, the 50th anniversary of the Tour, and will feature a minimum of 47 tournaments in 27 different countries, including new tournaments in the UAE, Japan, South Africa, and Belgium.

The Rolex Series will now comprise of five events: the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, the Genesis Scottish Open, the BMW PGA Championship, and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

The total prize money for the season will be north of $200 million for the first time, with a new minimum prize fund of $2 million for all tournaments solely sanctioned by the DP World Tour.

2022 DP World Tour schedule

The opening event of the 2022 DP World Tour schedule – the Joburg Open – was cut to 36 holes due to a combination of travel restrictions in and out of South Africa following the discovery of a new Covid variant and inclement weather.

The SA Open goes ahead as planned from December 2-5 but will not be sanctioned by the DP World Tour, while the Alfred Dunhill Championship has been cancelled. The tour will return in the Middle East in January.
