When is the… 2018 BMW PGA Championship?
The 2018 BMW PGA Championship is one of the flagship events in the European Tour schedule. Before the introduction of the Race to Dubai in 2009 it was the highest paying event on the tour.
Here’s the lowdown on the 2018 tournament.
A brief history
The championship started in 1955 and was known as the PGA Close Championship in it’s inaugural year and was won by Ken Bousfield.
The event has visited many different courses and has been played at Hillside, Ganton, Royal Birkdale and St Andrews to name a few.
Did you know…
Nick Faldo holds the record for the most wins at the tournament having won it on four occasions in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1989.
Brian Bamford holds the lowest recorded aggregate score of 261 when he won the tournament at Royal Mid-Surrey in 1961.
In 2019 the event will move to September due to the 2019 PGA Championship moving to May.
Where is the 2018 BMW PGA Championship?
The BMW PGA Championship is held on the West Course at Wentworth in Surrey, England. It has been held at the course permanently since 1984.
When is the 2018 BMW PGA Championship?
The tournament will be held between 24th and 27th May in 2018.
Who is the defending champion?
Alex Noren won the 2017 tournament with a score of 11 under par beating Francesco Molinari by two shots.
Matthew Beedle
Matthew has been playing golf since he was around 13 and took up the game at a local nine-hole municipal course with his friends before joining Pontefract & District Golf Club just over the hedge.
Still a member of Pontefract with a handicap of 3, he currently sits on the board of directors to help with digital and marketing initiatives in order to improve membership and visitor income.

Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.
Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
