The 2018 BMW PGA Championship is one of the flagship events in the European Tour schedule. Before the introduction of the Race to Dubai in 2009 it was the highest paying event on the tour.

A brief history

The championship started in 1955 and was known as the PGA Close Championship in it’s inaugural year and was won by Ken Bousfield.

The event has visited many different courses and has been played at Hillside, Ganton, Royal Birkdale and St Andrews to name a few.

Nick Faldo holds the record for the most wins at the tournament having won it on four occasions in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1989.

Brian Bamford holds the lowest recorded aggregate score of 261 when he won the tournament at Royal Mid-Surrey in 1961.

In 2019 the event will move to September due to the 2019 PGA Championship moving to May.
