The downhill chip shot with tour pro Jack McDonald
Jack McDonald is a professional golfer on the European Tour. He was an integral part of the wining 2015 Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team.
We went up to Archerfield to get some short game tips from Jack. Here, he talks to us about playing a downhill chip shot.
I’ve got my 52 degree wedge with a green that slopes right to left. I’ve targeted a little shelf that I’d like to pitch it on.
For this particular shot you want to fall into the slope with your weight a little more on your left side. (Right hand side for left handed golfers).
You also want to shut the face slightly and try to release it down the slope. It’s essential to read the green when you are chipping like this.
Finally, with the ball position you want it a slightly further back to make sure you get the good strike you want. For this kind of shot you want to try and keep it as simple as possible.
