Getting up and down regularly takes so much pressure off the rest of your game, freeing you up to play better. And isn’t that what we all want?

Putting yourself under pressure is the best way to make your practice worthwhile. Next time you’re playing, try these short game tips, including this roll-off chipping challenge…

Short game tips: Pressure chipping game

On the odd holes, even if you’ve hit the green, roll your ball off and try get up and down from the resultant position. In the video, myself and Andy were playing a stableford match so the pressure was on to keep our points, but it works just as well in various other formats – the most important thing is the existence of pressure.

When we play competitions, there’s always something on the line so if you only practice in conditions you feel comfortable in, don’t expect to excel in the moments where you feel most uncomfortable.

Suggest this game to your playing partners and see how it goes. You might struggle at first, but your golf will be far better in the long-run.

This instruction video was filmed at Lumine Golf Club, host venue of the 2019 European Tour Qualifying School. For more information, visit their website.
