Nike Air Pegasus ’89 G Golf Shoe Review: First Impressions
Casual styled golf shoes have always been my go to, so I was excited when I got the chance to review these Nike shoes. As is the case with a number of other golf shoe ranges, the Nike Air Pegasus’ originally started out as a sneaker. It was also transformed into a popular running shoe and is now aiming for success in the golf industry.

I loved the trainer-like look that many golf brands have adopted for their golf shoes over recent times. This is very much a summer golf shoe in terms of it’s styling, especially here in the UK, be when the temperatures start to rise and the ground becomes more firm this shoe will come into its own.
The shoes fit perfect to sizing for me – I am a size 11. As you would expect with a retro-styled, trainer-like golf shoe they are as far away from a traditional FootJoy golf shoe imaginable. They also hold huge off the course value in their versatility of use. Being spikeless there is no reason why you couldn’t wear these going down to the shops.
Nike Air Pegasus ’89 G Golf Shoe Review: NCG Verdict
I must confess, I haven’t tested many Nike golf shoes in my time but I am a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to there trainers. I am also very familiar with casual styled golf shoes and it’s fair to say these are some of the best modern looking shoes I have tested.

Straight out of the box the Nike Air Pegasus ’89 golf shoes were extremely comfortable. A uper soft and smooth midsole helps to promote this as it is constructed of two supportive foams in the forefoot and heel. Additionally there is a hidden Zoom Air unit in the heel to help supply that extra bit of comfort.

You can really feel this premium soft cushioning all-round the golf course. Nike have managed to capture that trainer comfort in their golf shoe that other brands fall short upon at times.
Although I think these are best suited to spring and summer use they can still be utilised in slightly wetter conditions. This is due to the Stay Dry technology Nike have included in the design as the synthetic upper provides water resistance in all-weather conditions.
I was lucky enough to avoid any rain during testing but the ground was slightly wet in places which the shoes dealt with without issue. I would still tend to favour a spiked golf shoes in wetter conditions just for that extra bit of grip and stability.
However, I found no issues with the grip on offer during my round. The wet rubber integrated traction pattern sole offers the ultimate grip in all conditions. As I tested them in March and the ground was still quite soft and wet. There was no issue for the outsole of this Nike golf shoe to deal with.

Overall, I think these are a great casual, modern looking golf shoe. If you are looking for something that is comfortable to play in but still delivers top level performance then you need look no further.
The look won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. To have something that you can slip on for a quick round or nine holes in the summer after work and wear in the clubhouse after can be quite the convenience though.
