FootJoy have been around long enough to have seen how wet and muddy the average golf club in the UK gets to know that there needs to be a solution to keep golfers going.
The FootJoy Stormwalker boots are the answer. Fully waterproof, has excellent traction and with high boot edges you can walk in the long grass and through puddles and never suffer with wet feet.

FootJoy Storm Walker Golf Boot Review: First Impressions
I have never owned a pair of golf boots before. The golf course I am lucky to play at remains pretty dry throughout winter, and it’s been a few years since I’ve willingly gone somewhere that is boggy, but I know this isn’t the norm for most players. I don’t mind the idea of boots but when I’ve got them in my hands before I’ve never quite got my head around wearing them.
Getting a pair of the Stormwalker’s to review for our mammoth autumn-winter testing days has forced me to face my fears and finally get a pair on and see what they are like. Although a far cry from the casual, non-golfy shoes I would normally go for when I first put them on I really felt like my feet were locked in and secure in the boots.
The boots are made out of a soft premium full grain leather that you could wear, polish, and keep going forever. They feel pretty soft and have a nice fit across the forefoot, whilst designed with a slightly narrow heel to make you feel secure and stable when walking and in the swing.
On Course Testing
I wore these shoes in an absolute deluge in my usual Sunday morning game with the lads. I rarely miss a game on a Sunday, and the weather is never the reason I don’t play, so I actually started to feel like these boots could be useful for me. I did wear them under waterproof trousers in an attempt to hide the fact I was wearing boots as if anyone even cared.

The shoes performed very well out on the golf course. Like most golfers, I have owned many pairs of FootJoys over the years and they are always great so I expected nothing else out of the Stormwalkers. Interestingly I found myself not avoiding wet patches or standing water that I would normally stay clear of, and I also clambered up some slopes I would normally walk around facing no issue at all.
All this grip is thanks to the Pulsar cleats by Softspikes® low profile spikes that FootJoy have put on the Stormwalker boots. These combined with the moulded grip spikes on the sole provide brilliant traction and turf gripping that also helps in the swing. I’m fairly prone to slipping in the downswing when the grass is wet, but I didnt have any issue in these boots at all. So that’s a huge win for me and my golf.
I had absolutely no issue with wet feet during these three hours in the rain, and these boots have FJ’s standard 1-year waterproof warranty that I’m sure you could keep going for much longer if you look after them properly. The boots also have a thermal lining to help keep your feet warm. This isn’t something I needed on my test but something I look forward to as the temperature drops deep into winter.
The 19th hole
It’s safe to say that I wouldn’t wear these anywhere but the golf course in winter. They are quite clearly meant for the golf course and not a fashion item, but that is fine because that’s not what you are buying them for. A use I could absolutely use them for is teaching in during the winter months. The pay-and-play I teach out of gets pretty wet due to lack of drainage, so I’ve sometimes even worn wellies on the range when it gets really bad.

These shoes would do a fine job for me keeping my feet dry, and also keeping me warmer during December and January. Sitting on a range for 5 hours when the temperature hovers around 0 degrees can be made much more unpleasant if you are cold, but I think I’d manage to stay pretty warm in these.
Obviously, at the start of this review I was almost worried about wearing these shoes as I don’t think golf boots are that ‘cool’, but functionally these are brilliant, and I do recommend golfers try them if they play all year round and play a wet golf course. I’ll probably still only wear them under waterproof trousers but I think these golf shoes will be useful for me playing and coaching, and I love that you can shine them up with an old-school polish.
