Looking great under a pair of trousers or waterproofs, these golf shoes are a great solution to the winter footwear problem that we all face as they are so comfortable.
PROS
- Warm
- Great traction and stability
- very waterproof
CONS
- It might be a bit tight getting your foot in the sock-like fitting upper.
Adidas Codechaos Laceless Golf Shoe Review: First Impressions
I am generally quite open to trying new things, but I have never owned a pair of golf boots before. The golf course I am lucky to play at doesn’t get that muddy throughout winter, but I know this is not the norm for most golfers. We all face the winter golf shoe dilemma; form or function? I have sold a fair few pairs of boots in my pro shop days so it’s only fair I try a pair for myself.
The Adidas Codechaos laceless golf shoes are like nothing I’ve ever worn before and first, give me the feeling of something Lionel Messi might wear on the football pitch. But, the more I look at them the more I like them. I like that they have gotten rid of the traditional laced design and turned the whole shoe into pretty much a big sock, Once they are on they are on and you don’t have to faff around with laces when your fingers are numb.
First putting them on I love how the primeknit textile upper hugs the natural shape of my foot, I feel like the shoe fits me rather than me fitting into a shoe. I also like how it hugs my ankle as a second sock, they are really comfortable and won’t rub or cause blisters.

On Course Testing
I wore these shoes in an absolute deluge in my usual Sunday morning game with the lads. rain or shine I never miss a game on a sunday morning, with it almost being a form of weekly therapy for me so the weather is never the reason I don’t play, I actually started to feel like these laceless golf shoes could be useful for me. I did wear them under waterproof trousers in an attempt to hide the fact I was wearing high top shoes as if anyone even cared.

I really enjoyed wearing these shoes out on the golf course. They did a great job of keeping me warm and I didn’t suffer at all with wet feet on what was a really wet day. Even the most waterproof shoes let water in over the top when trudging through heavy, wet rough but with the sock like lining being waterproof and tight around my ankle, this was never going to happen.
These are obviously spikeless golf shoes, which is usually something I avoid when the course is wet. I often slip pushing incorrectly off my right foot in the swing so always look for something with a lot of big spikes. Adidas’s twist grip wraparound outsole is much grippier than I was expecting, as not only did I not slip when swinging but there was no hint of slipping when scampering up steep slopes around the course.
The Codechaos laceless shoes have the famous Adidas boost midsole which we all know is extremely comfortable underfoot, and the spikeless shoes do keep your feet feeling fresh throughout the whole round. The shoes feature a 1 year waterproof guarantee and are made up of 50% recycled plastic waste which is a huge bonus for sustainability.

The 19th hole
It’s safe to say that I wouldn’t wear these anywhere but the golf course in winter, They are quite clearly meant for the golf course and not a fashion item, but that is fine because that’s not what you are buying them for. A use I could absolutely use them for is teaching during the winter months. the pay and play I teach out of gets pretty wet due to lack of drainage, so I’ve sometimes even worn wellies on the range when it gets really bad.

These shoes would do a fine job for me keeping my feet dry, and also keeping me warmer during December and January. Sitting on a range for 5 hours when the temperature hovers around 0 degrees can be made much more unpleasant if you are cold, but I think I’d manage to stay pretty warm in these

I’m a big fan of these shoes despite initial doubts. Adidas has done a great job of trying to make a fairly uncool although functional style of shoe different and interesting, and the features they have make them a great option for golfers looking for golf boots this winter.
If you look carefully enough you will see me wearing these, and I have no issue telling all the golfers that suffer from muddy courses in winter that these golf boots are the solution to the issue we all face. They even clean up well after a round!
