There has always been much to admire about the way Yonex combine high-quality materials with innovative Japanese technology and design.
And with the new EZone XPG range we see these premium components all working together.
Extra weight is added to the clubhead in the driver, fairway, hybrids and irons which is then counter-balanced by adding Tungsten powder into the butt of the grip.
The theory a lot of people in golf are working towards is a light shaft to make the head feel heavier,” explained Yonex fitting expert Darren Burgess.
The problem is that one end becomes too heavy and the other is too light. Our counter-balancing with extra weight in the grip makes the clubs a lot more playable.
The EZone XPG driver is slightly larger than the previous XP model with a lower CG and a light carbon-composite crown with handy alignment markings.
The irons feature a double undercut cavity to increase the size of the sweetspot for maximum forgiveness.
There are also fairways and hybrids which carry similar technologies to the driver including very simple adjustability in the hosel.
Premium graphite shaft options are available throughout the range.
FIRST HIT: I tested out the new Yonex XPG range as the product was launched earlier in the year. My first reaction on hitting the driver was just how light and easy to swing it was.
I didn’t have any problems with the red and black look at address in last year’s EZone XP but it may have put some people off from the outset.
There’s a much simpler look in the XPG which just feels like a no-nonsense driver that is very easy to use.
We didn’t get the chance to review any launch monitor data but the ball flight looked good and there was a very nice feeling off the face with a sweet sound.
