4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

This fairway wood shocked me. It feels solid and performs as well as clubs four times the price; I am not sure what I expected, but it was not supposed to be this good.

PROS

  • East to get the ball airborne off the ground
  • Brilliant out of the middle
  • Long

CONS

  • Ball speed dropped off on mishits

Ram Golf FX fairway wood review: First Impressions

Ram Golf’s 2023 lineup is very good. I loved the FX irons, the Tour Grind wedges performed very well, and it all comes at a ridiculously low price.

The Ram FX fairway wood has a matte black crown and is a lovely round shape. The face is a fraction on the deep side, but it’s made from premium materials and has a modern design and technology to make it more aerodynamic and has a sole design that reduces turf drag.

NCG Verdict

The Ram FX77 irons were excellent but for some reason, I wasn’t convinced when I first got my hands on the new Ram Golf FX fairway wood. With the cost of clubs getting more and more expensive every year, how good could a wood that costs £69.99 really be?

The first shot I hit was a bit low on the face and hooked (my fault), and the numbers it produced were pretty average, but after the 2nd shot, I knew Ram Golf have built a brilliant club. 154 mph ball speed for a 242 carry and 268 total is absolutely brilliant.

skytrak+ data

The shots out the middle feel really hot, and the numbers back that up. There is a little variance in the spin, but I couldn’t confirm whether that was my fault or the club’s. What I do know is that it goes an awful long way for £69.99.

I very much enjoyed the flat trajectory the FX fairway wood produced; at my ball speed, it’s no issue, but other golfers may need to loft up to the 18-degree head to get optimal launch conditions.

The head sits quite deep, which moves the centre of gravity lower and more forwards in the head, which is what gives the face such heat. It also makes it a brilliant club for tee shots if you require a straighter but still powerful fairway finder.

I absolutely recommend that golfers on a budget have a look at this fairway wood. You can get some fairly decent clubs second-hand nowadays, but to get a brand new fairway wood that performs as well as this at under £70 is unbelievable. Ram golf have once again knocked it out of the park.
