First Impressions

This is the second pair of G/Fore shoes I have tried. I was extremely impressed with the Gallivan 2R. TheMG4+ O2 G/Lock are far removed in appearance with a modern, functional look.

There is no doubt on first look what these shoes are about. They are waterproof and designed for comfort. This gives them a less sleek look than a more conventional shoe but they still look pretty good when on. The dark blue (twilight) upper contrasts with the thick white sole and they come with a spare pair of white laces.

Regarding the tech, the features include a TPU baseplate with integral lateral lugs for stability, a moulded external heel counter, an anatomically designed responsive EVA midsole with auxetic sidewall and a lightweight and waterproof upper. They also have G/Fore’s signature 3-D folded removable and washable insoles, a padded tongue and performance mesh for breathability and odour control. Finally they have the MG4+ replaceable cleats with tourflexpro softspikes. They come in a cool-looking, high quality box with a magnetic flap closure, a nice touch to make it something practical and re-useable.

Putting these on, they immediately felt comfortable and highly supportive. This is where I think golf shoes have really come on. I have had several pairs of very comfortable golf shoes in the past but the performance, in particular the support, was non-existent. With the MG4+ O2 it is clear that thought has gone into designing a shoe that has support and comfort without compromising on either.

On Course Testing

On to testing them in the golfing arena. They were very comfortable when walking around. I am a UK 9 and these were spot on size-wise. I think this is another area where a well designed shoe comes into its own. They can fit properly and feel snug without feeling tight. My one take-away for potential buyers would be that these shoes have nailed maximising comfort and support without compromising one for the other.

When swinging there was no sensation of looseness or giving-way and they provided all the support that I anticipated.

The TourFlexPro Softspikes, unsurprisingly, provided excellent traction.

There is not a lot to dislike about the G/For MG4+ O2 G/Lock golf shoe.

The performance is second to none. It is definitely in one camp when it comes to appearance. Despite being a little conservative in my tastes I really liked the look.

A top shoe from the ever-inventive G/Fore company.
