Callaway have already made their mark on 2025 with their new Elyte range, all their clubs have seriously impressed our reviews team.
In trying to elevate their product and building on the Paradym Ai Smoke range, they have focused on two areas where golfers struggle with their metalwoods the most. They have looked to improve the performance of low misses off the face of the club as well as being able to make solid contact in general.
If its a confidence inspiring and easy to swing fairway wood that your after then this is an ideal option. The versatility of the club is brilliant, being suitable to hit off a variety of different lies.
I know aesthetically, the Callaway Elyte series may divide people and not be appealing to all but for me I think it’s perfectly reasonable. The performance certainly makes up for any concerns over its looks and that’s really what we as golfers want.
PROS
Produces quick balls speeds and plenty of distance
TaylorMade have produced a plethora of high-quality fairway woods over the years. They have consistently delivered some of the most innovative designs that the golf industry has ever seen.

TaylorMade has launched their new Qi35 range for 2025, featuring four new fairway woods. TaylorMade fairway woods were the most played out of any brand on tour in 2024. Technologies like the Twist Face™, Thru-Slot Speed Pocket™, and an Infinity Carbon Crown were a big part of why their fairway woods were so successful and have been included in the Qi35 range.
Golfers can take advantage of the confidence inspiring profile both off the tee and from the fairways. This is in addition to the shallow face for an easy and high launch. An extremely playable fairway wood that can produce a variety of different shot types.
The brand’s previous TSR range of woods were designed to be the best for distance, whilst at the same time they also prove to be the most forgiving fairway woods that money can buy – especially as they are now available at discounted rates!
The TSR line-up consisted of the TSR1, TSR2, TSR2+ and TSR3 fairway woods – each with their own unique characteristics to suit different players’ demands.
This may be about to change, however, as the new Srixon ZXi fairway wood is one of the best releases this year. Read on to find out why our Srixon ZXi Fairway wood review concludes this could be the perfect fairway wood for attacking greens…..
Srixon Fairway Woods: NCG Favourite
Srixon ZXi Fairway Wood
The Srixon ZXi fairway wood is the ideal club for a lot of club golfers looking for something to help them attack the green. It produced a high, rainbow style ball flight consistently. I also found it extremely easy to hit, especially off the ground.
Styled and refined by player feedback, I am a big fan of the crown design. I wouldn’t be surprised if I see this fairway wood in a lot of golfers’ bags this year.
Famed by YouTube golf giants the Bryan Bros and Grant Horvat, Takomo is a direct to consumer offering and golf’s latest trendy brand. Takomo offer a range of golf clubs at a more affordable price.
Although they have claimed plenty of praise for their irons, this is the brand’s first go at making and releasing a range of fairway woods.
Takomo Fairway Woods: NCG Favourite
Takomo Ignis Fairway Wood
This is a really easy to hit and forgiving fairway wood. Typically fairways are one of the hardest golf clubs in the bag to hit but there is no such issue with this Takomo Ignis club. Plenty of club golfers who are less bothered about gaining maximum distance and are more focused on striking the ball cleaner can put this into play.
For a really reasonable price golfers can utilise a club that feels great and is nice to use. It’s not often you can say that about fairway woods.
As expected the TaylorMade Qi35 fairway wood delivered to level performance across the board. The power and speed on offer was exceptional and a joy to use.
The same affection is held towards the styling and design of the fairway wood on the whole. Inspired by an exposed material look whilst being designed to scream speed.
PROS
Quick and powerful club face that delivers excellent distances
Desirable ball flight
Sleek, carbon design
CONS
None

Ping fairway woods are used by some of the best golfers in the world, and for a good reason.
Ping’s new roster of market-leading fairway woods includes the Ping G440 Max, SFT and LST – each with their own unique characteristics that will suit every golfer’s needs.
In case you haven’t read up on Ping’s latest innovations, we’ve got everything you need to know about the Ping G440 line and why they might just be the brand’s best line-up yet.
This is a great 3-wood option for all club golfers out there. Despite its fairly basic looking design it delivers some out of the ordinary performance.
Cobra had great success with last year’s Darkspeed range and for 2025 they certainly haven’t held back with their newest range of equipment, Cobra DS-Adapt.
The new DS-Adapt Metalwoods range features three new fairway woods, aiming to cater for every golfer.
Cobra have included the same innovative technologies in their fairway metals as what’s evident in their driver line-up. These technologies include the brand’s all-new hosel system appropriately named FutureFit33.
In total, there are 33 unique settings that the woods can be set into. The hosel allows the golfer to adjust the loft, by a maximum of +2 or -2, and lie angle of the club. Both of which can be altered independent of each other.
Cobra have introduced a new level to fitting in their DS-Adapt range. Equipped with a new hosel system this fairway wood offers unrivalled adjustability to optimise your swing type and performance.
Paired with an uncharacteristically toned down styling from Cobra, this is a fantastic low spin fairway wood option. With a quick ball speed and plenty of workability on offer a faster swinging golfer could utilise this for top level performance.
Titleist launched their new GT fairway offering and the NCG team reviewed them in March – there is the GT1 (helps with launch), GT2 (distance and forgiveness) and the GT3 (penetrating ball flight).
The Titleist GT1 Fairway Wood is an absolute game-changer for golfers who need forgiveness, high launch, and exceptional ball speed off the deck.
Whether you’re an aggressive player off the tee or need a reliable option into long par-5s, the GT1 provides easy launch, consistent spin control, and incredible carry distances.
If you’ve ever struggled to find a three-wood that feels effortless, the GT1 might just be your new best friend.
PROS
High-launch
Confidence inspiring look at address
Plenty of forgiveness on off-centred strikes
Reliable option when hitting into par 5s
CONS
Doesn’t promote a particularly penetrating ball flight
The Titleist GT3 fairway wood is a great option for someone who is looking to increase their ball flight control. It is a high-performance option designed for golfers who prioritise workability and a penetrating flight.
With a new face design, the GT3 fairways enable a consistently high launch. The club also lots of adjustability so you can dial in your ball flight and shot shape.
With the deeper face, front-weighted centre of gravity, CG, and an adjustable weight track, it offers versatility for skilled ball strikers who need low-spin, controlled launch characteristics. Whilst I didn’t find it as forgiving as the GT1, it provides excellent distance retention and stability on well-struck shots.
Wilson believe they have optimised the performance levels of the new Dynapwr 2025 fairway woods.
The fairways have been aided by the development of multiple sweet spots in the face of the clubs as a result of the inclusion of their AI driven PKR-360 face. Quick ball speeds have also become a staple of the fairway woods from the forged custom 455 face material.
The 2025 line up consists of a carbon and max model.
Wilson Fairway Woods: NCG Favourite
Wilson Dynapwr 2025 Max Fairway Wood
What this fairway wood may lack in ball speed certainly makes up in forgiveness. The Wilson Dynapwr MAX was a delight to hit and felt great. It produced a lovely ball flight and strong distances.
I think this is a great option for a lot of club golfers due to its extreme playability. If its a fairway finder your after, this won’t disappoint.
PROS
Plenty of forgiveness
Pleasing high ball flight for attacking the greens
A versatility wood that can be used off the ground and tee
The ST-Z 230 fairway features lots of adjustability so it can be set up for varying levels of players.
Fast ball speeds are created through the use of a steel face and Mizuno’s Cortech chamber.
The carbon composite crown helps lower the centre of gravity, while the front-to-back weighting helps deliver consistent launch characteristics.
Mizuno Fairway Woods: NCG Favourite
Mizuno ST-Z 230
This fairway wood is really strong. Expect hot ball speeds and really powerful shots. Its deep head almost has a ‘mini driver’ feeling to it and is an excellent option off the tee or on a tight fairway.
Golfers will feel a bit intimidated at address with the head being so deep, but the face is enormous, pretty forgiving and easier to hit than it looks.
If you carry two fairway woods and just want a 3-wood for tee shots, the Mizuno ST-Z 230 is perfect.
PROS
Brilliant off a tee
Really fast off the face
Plenty of spin to keep the ball in the air
4 degrees of adjustability
CONS
Not particularly confidence inspiring when the ball is on the ground
Choosing the best fairway wood for your game can be a challenging task, especially with so many great options available from top brands like Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping, Cobra, Srixon, Wilson, Takomo, Mizuno and Titleist.
With features like adjustable weighting, innovative face technologies, and superior ball speed, these fairway woods can help take your game to the next level in 2025. Consider your own skill level, swing speed, and preferred play style to determine which fairway wood is the right fit for you, and get ready to enjoy improved performance and greater confidence on the course.”
How do we test fairway woods?
At National Club Golfer we are passionate about producing accurate and thorough reviews and make sure our testing process is rigorous so we get a good understanding of how each club performs.
Each fairway wood is hit with TP5 golf balls to allow us to collect launch monitor data with our in-house TrackMan and Flightscope. After this it is time to head out onto the golf course and test the clubs in practice and competition play. We do this across a variety of golf clubs in our base of Yorkshire.
What is important when buying a new fairway wood?
When buying a new fairway wood it is important to know what you want from that club to help you improve.
Most people are looking for more distance, each wood is optimised for different things. Depending on your swing and your impact conditions, you may not actually hit the model that is advertised as the longest, the furthest. So if you want more distance it is always worth giving different models a hit before you make a decision.
For most golfers, especially high handicappers, something that is more forgiving is going to yield the best performance. Most forgiving golf drivers have a slightly bigger club head with perimeter weighting for high MOI. They also have a center of gravity that is further back to help players get more height on their shots.
Do you want something that is draw bias? There are so many models out there to help with slice correction, it would be silly not to take a look if you see your ball disappearing into the right trees too often. A closed face and draw bias weighting can get you hitting straighter shots in no time at all.
Don’t forget about the shaft either. Getting the correct shaft can help dial in your spin, launch angle and can also give you some extra distance. Having a club fitting or trying different options with your local pro can really improve the performance of your new driver.
