First Impressions
The OPTM X is a very tidy-looking driver. The compact, player-friendly shape is confidence-inspiring without being intimidating, and the crown gives it a premium, no-nonsense appearance.
There’s plenty of carbon visible in the construction, both in the crown and sole, which is something I prefer from my drivers. The OPTM X also introduces two new weight ports, something we haven’t seen before.
Behind the ball, I can see a lot of similarities with the Callaway Triple Diamond driver. It has matte leading edge, a clean, dark crown and the lines on the face help with alignment. Some nice touches.
NCG Verdict
The big talking point across the OPTM range is Cobra’s new POI (Product of Inertia) concept. MOI focuses on resistance to twisting vertical movement and for opening and closing the face.
POI, on the other hand, addresses diagonal twisting of the club face, something Cobra believes can lead to wider dispersion through increased gear effect.
Using AI, the head has been reshaped and there has also been a redistribution of mass via the new weight ports. But all you have to worry about, is that all this is designed to, in theory, is help you hit the ball straighter.
That theory was a reality for me. Even my slightly low or thin strikes flew remarkably straight, it is a true fairway finder.
My ball speeds were strong and consistent across testing, underlining Cobra’s reputation producing drivers with faster ball speeds. I have always been a fan of their drivers for this reason, particularly the AeroJet (which is unbelievably available at £199 from some retailers). I think they have a really good aero package which makes the speed levels really. good

While spin was a touch higher than ideal on some strikes, especially when contact dropped low on the face, the overall flight remained stable and predictable. I think this is a trade-off worth doing for a lot of many golfers, for the added control.
Final Thoughts
What really defines the Cobra OPTM X is straight-line performance. It may not be the lowest-spinning or most aggressive driver in the lineup, but it repeatedly delivered fairway-finding drives with solid ball speed and reassuring forgiveness across the face.
If you’re shopping for a new driver, I would urge you not to overlook accuracy as a key component. This delivers that, without sacrificing distance.
Cobra has created a driver that sits nicely between player looks and everyday usability, a very good option.
