Puma say that they have something in their 2017 apparel range for everyone, so we wanted to put that theory to the test.

We headed to their Manchester HQ to get kitted out with the latest summer collection on offer before heading out on the course to test them out over 18 holes.

The first task was to pick our outfits and for this we had the help of Brian Martin, the head of merchandising at Puma Golf.

James wanted something a little livelier rather than his typical greys and blacks which occupy his cupboard at home. With this in mind Brian chose the following look for our Equipment Editor:

T-shirt –  Tailored Colourblock Polo Shirt  SRP: £39.99

Trousers – Tailored Tech Trousers  SRP: £59.99

Shoes –  Titantour Ignite Spiked Disc SRP: £120

Pullover – Powerwarm popover sweater SRP: £59.99

For Craig it was a case of ultimate comfort. He wanted something that fit well without feeling restricted in his golf swing. Brian had the perfect combination:

T-shirt – Pounce Pique Polo Shirt  SRP: £34.99

Trousers – Performance fit trousers SRP: £59.99

Shoes – Ignite Spikeless Sport laced SRP: £99.99

Pullover – Core popover sweater SRP: £39.99

With outfits picked we headed out to Moor Allerton to do a bit of on course testing to see how the apparel really performed.

NCG verdict

James was looking for something a little livelier to add to his wardrobe and he certainly got that. What did he make of the outfit overall when tested out on the course?

The popover had loads of stretch, it was nice and light and warm too. It was not heavy or restricting.

I loved the trousers they are really smart and comfortable and the shoes are fantastic. Even in the summer I like a pair of spiked shoes for ultimate traction. I’m usually late to the tee so to have a disc shoe saves me a lot of time.

All in all the looks are great and the combined colours work really well.

For Craig it was all about ultimate comfort for summer golf and he wasn’t left disappointed with the outfit picked out for him.

The pullover was nice and thin and didn’t restrict my swing which is always a good sign and quality in a pullover.

The pants were a great fit which is something I struggle with in golf pants. So finding these past which are easy around the thighs as well as really smart was very pleasing.

Finally the shoes, as a lot of people know I’m quite picky when it comes to shoes. But the sport laced spikeless option really turned my head. They are so comfortable, really like a pair of slippers! After 18 holes I have no aches or pains in my feet which is quite unusual after trying a new pair of golf shoes on.

Overall I’m extremely happy and really impressed with the range as a whole.

To conclude it’s clear to see that Puma really do have something for everyone in this range. There was a  perception of Puma that they only had whacky bright colours like Rickie Fowler used to wear but what you’ve seen both from Fowler and Puma over the past few years is the way they have both matured.

You see Rickie now with some really stylish classic looks and that is what Puma want to show you in their latest range.
