Our Ping winter golf clothing review focusses on the brand’s new 2018 autumn winter range.
Myself and editor Dan Murphy have been testing out various garments on golf courses in England and Scotland over the past few weeks.
New Ping winter golf clothing: First impressions
Ping brought the clothing side of their business in-house a couple of years ago and we’ve really seen them go from strength to strength.
Last year we were particularly impressed with the Norse jacket which kept the cold out without the need for dozens of layers.

It also looked fantastic and was able to be worn off the course with a pair of jeans.
So what’s new for this autumn and winter?
We are seeing a continuation of the Norse franchise but the brand have invested heavily in Primaloft technology which adds warmth.
But it allows Ping to keep the garments light and stretchy.
The last thing we want out on the golf course is bulk that restricts our movements through the swing.
It’s a synthetic equivalent to down – apart from it isn’t at all bulky and is hydrophobic (that’s water-repellent to you and me).
New Ping winter golf clothing: Standout garments

Both myself and Dan have been testing out the Norse PrimaLoft Zoned Jacket (£120), which has warmth across the chest but gives unrestricted arm movement.

The original Norse Primaloft jacket (£140) is still available which is more like a traditional all-in-one jacket.
Think of the Zoned jacket like the combination of a padded gilet and a stretchy mid-layer.

The Norse PrimaLoft Fleece (£100) is designed specially to move and retain shape throughout the golf swing.
It’s made from a highly breathable, four-way stretch fabric.
This is more of a mid-layer which will probably get a bit more use all year round.
Full details on the whole men’s and women’s ranges can be found on the Ping website.

New Ping winter golf clothing: The results
When it comes to outerwear for golf, I am prepared to take absolutely anything that technology can offer.
For half of the year, we’re out there for several hours in temperatures hovering little above zero. And that’s before you factor in the wind chill factor and rain.
Golf is a demanding sport when it comes to this kind of clothing.
Not only do we need to be warm and dry, we also need to be able to move freely.
And that’s why PrimaLoft is such an exciting innovation for Ping to include in their apparel. You feel the warmth as soon as you put it on. But you can swing without restriction.

We are both massive fans of the Norse PrimaLoft Zoned Jacket. It’s the perfect autumn, winter and spring garment.
But when it gets really cold, you can reach for the Norse PrimaLoft jacket. The whole of the jacket features PrimaLoft so you are simply not going to get cold in the upper body.
Given the choice, we’d rather wear the Zoned version for maximum freedom of movement on the golf course.
Perhaps the most versatile garment in the line is the Norse PrimaLoft Fleece.
It’s a mid-layer, so wear it as your jumper throughout the colder months and relish its comfort, warmth and the unhindered movement it allows.
New Ping winter golf clothing – NCG verdict
This new range of winter apparel really elevates the Ping range – it offers the same kind of performance values as Ping clubs.
There’s an undeniable quality to the materials and the construction.
There’s a quiet confidence about this range which is everything we have come to expect from Ping in recent years.

Their equipment is really good and more often than not it speaks for itself without the need for the sugar-coating we sometimes get from other brands.
In this new range the colours are fairly plain which is exactly what some people are looking for through the winter months.
Ping are focussing on the performance first and foremost but that’s not to say this range isn’t stylish.
It’s not going to make you stand out on the first tee but it will keep you warm and ‘playing your best’ until the 18th green.
