Airline travel can be pretty stressful for all sorts of reasons. When I saw the budget travel cover of my golf bag half unzipped on the conveyor belt returning home after a recent trip to the Lisbon area of Portugal (highly recommended by the way), I felt distinctly anxious. After a quick check that the precious cargo held within the cover was undamaged, the anxiety melted away. But then I started thinking – what if this had happened on the outbound flight? I would have to have purchased something abroad, which I would regard as less than ideal.

Welcome then to premium offering from Motocaddy, which offers excellent protection in an ingenious design – a product that will put the bed any anxious feelings of how your golf clubs are going to be treated when travelling on a plane. Read on to find out more in the full Motocaddy Flightsafe Travel Cover review….

First Impressions

I was excited to unbox the Flightsafe Travel Cover from Motocaddy. The cover itself is contained in an outer box. The materials used, the zips and zip pulls and the handles all look and feel to be of premium quality as you would expect from Motocaddy.

There are visual instructions on the box explaining how to unpack and repack the flight cover, but it’s all pretty intuitive really.

I was pleased to see a solid base which housed six wheels. Four of the wheels are on casters which allows easy handling when the bag is vertical. The other two wheels come into play when pulling the bag on longer journeys. There are five usefully positioned grab handles and a large external zippered pocket.

The design of this travel cover is a thing of beauty. You simply fully unzip the outer box and remove the folded cover. You then place the outer box over your club heads and secure it in place with an internal buckle strap and close the zips.

You then smoothly place your hooded golf bag inside the cover and secure it with two internal buckles. You then fully close the robust zip and secure everything with an outer external buckle strap.

When you reach your destination, you essentially reverse the process, and the cover folds away into the outer box , for easy storage.

I have tested this cover with all sizes of golf bag ranging from a slender pencil right through to a large tour issue. Because of the protection afforded by the box covering the club heads, and the multiple straps, the cover works just fine in all situations

The five external grab handles and six wheels make handling the cover, in and out of vehicles, a piece of cake. I particularly liked the four wheels on casters which enabled easy manoeuvres in all sorts of potentially tricky situations.

The front of the cover also has a large pocket for any last-minute extras that you might want to throw in. I can see that being particularly useful for putting dirty washing in, because I think I’d be a little nervous using it for anything of value, such as a favourite pair of golf shoes.

Even with a large tour bag, there is plenty of space to comfortably and securely fit balls, shoes, waterproofs and other clothing in the main compartment.

So, for a week’s golfing holiday, I could easily manage with just an additional carry-on case, which makes everything a bit easier.

Final Thoughts

I think you can tell that I have really enjoyed using this cover. It offers practical features with secure carriage, offering peace of mind. If I had to find a fault, then I could argue for an internal pocket but I think that’s just being picky. The price is at the upper end for travel covers but is justified by the premium construction and clever design, and I fully expect this cover to last for years to come.
