It feels odd watching Phil Mickelson use anything other than that half-moon putter he used for years. But now he’s onto something new

Phil Mickelson putter

We’ve had a few quieter weeks on the new gear front as brands prepare for big equipment launches in the new year. I’ll get to Phil Mickelson’s putter in a moment, but here are a few other bits that caught my eye this week…

Hybrid-irons? A new look from Cobra

Cobra have introduced the T-Rail an all hollow iron-hybrid set. They are super game improvement clubs offering the forgiveness of a hybrid but with the precision of an iron.

They have an iron face and topline with a hollow body for high launch and forgiveness. They also feature baffler rails which we have previously seen on their fairway woods to improve turf interaction.

The hybrid will be available from November 15, 2020 at £699 for steel shafts and £799 for graphite. There will be more from me on this later, or you can head over to the Cobra website.

FootJoy unveils autumn winter apparel collection

The new range is designed to make every day playable with lots of different items which can be layered to keep you warm and dry throughout the off-season.

The collection includes the FootJoy HydroKnit, which we got our hands on earlier in the year, as well as numerous mid-layer and jacket options.

The collection is available now with prices starting at £100. For more visit the FootJoy website.

In the market for a new driver shaft?

Going all out Bryson and want to test some new shafts? KBS have launched their first ever driver/fairway wood shaft to the market…

The KBS TD Graphite wood shafts are designed to create mid-launch and low-spin. They are lighter but stiffer than other options on the market for superior feel and performance.

The shafts will be available from January and will set you back £260 each. You’ll find more on the KBS website.

Phil Mickelson’s putter available to the public

It feels odd watching Mickelson use anything other than that half-moon putter he used for years. But now he’s onto something new as his new prototype putter has been unveiled as the StrokeLab Black Ten which will be released by Odyssey in the new year.

They have also added a Bird of Prey model to the StrokeLab range for 2020.

New Equipment

Both models are described by Odyssey as “super-high MOI mallets”, which means they are very forgiving, helping you start the ball on line even when you don’t catch your putt right out the centre of the blade.

I’ve got my hands on one and I can’t wait to get out and try it.

Review coming soon, but if you want more information then you’ll find that on the Odyssey website. The putters will be available from January 31, 2020 at £269.

So that’s this week’s equipment lowdown – I told you it was quiet. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below or you can tweet me.
