Ping S259 Wedges: The Technology
The PING S259 wedges feature precision-milled, wheel-cut grooves that are engineered to maximize spin and control across all playing conditions. The groove dimensions vary from loft to loft, with higher-lofted wedges using tighter-spaced MicroMax grooves, with the idea to help create more spin on finesse shots around the green.
Lower-lofted wedges feature a 20° sidewall design that increases groove volume. This is designed to help deliver consistent spin and control on full swings.
A friction-enhancing face blast is applied to the hitting surface to further improve launch and spin consistency. Mid- and high-lofted wedges also incorporate a full-length bottom groove, which helps maintain spin on shots struck lower on the face.
The S259 wedges are constructed from 8620 carbon steel. This is the material of choice as it provides a soft, responsive feel.
A larger, reshaped elastomer insert is integrated into the head to fine-tune sound and vibration at impact. A lot of golfers, you may be one of them, prefer a more solid feel at impact, this ensures that.
Ping S259 Wedges: A Closer Look
The PING S259 wedge line up includes six distinct grind options and a total of 25 loft and grind combinations.
This extensive fitting range allows golfers to match their wedge setup to their swing type, angle of attack, and typical course conditions.
The S grind serves as the most versatile option and is well suited for golfers who play most shots with a square face and use their wedges frequently on full swings.

Additionally, the W grind is designed for golfers with steeper angles of attack and higher turf interaction. PING has expanded this option by adding new 50° and 52° lofts to improve gapping.
The T grind is designed for players who like to manipulate the club face, as its steeper trail edge allows the face to sit very low when opened.
Whereas, the E grind, also known as the Eye 2 grind, has been reshaped to provide a more traditional appearance at address while still delivering excellent performance from sand and slightly open-face shots.
The H and B grinds round out the lineup by offering additional bounce and sole configurations to suit a wide range of swing types and turf conditions.
