Best Abacus Golf Autumn Winter Apparel – Mens
Abacus Portrush Hybrid Vest
I do love the practicality and flexibility of a gilet. So much so that I rarely play golf without either wearing one or carrying one in my bag. And this latest iteration of the Portrush hybrid vest from Abacus is as good a gilet as I’ve tested. No matter that it comes in a whole host of sizes and a range of five different colours. The large size fitted my 173cm 74kg shape just perfectly and the navy colour looked great with contrasting white full-length zip and white detailing at the top and bottom of the two roomy zippered pockets.
So, it looks the part and offers performance to match. It is strongly insulating and packs away compactly in a golf bag. I’ve worn it as a second layer, over a polo shirt, right up to a fourth layer on bitter, windy days. It’s also easy to layer a waterproof shell over the top when it starts raining.
There’s nothing not to like about the Abacus Portrush hybrid vest – the only decision you need to make is what colour to choose. It comes highly recommended!
Abacus is a Swedish brand that has the reputation for producing quality gear. Here we test their new for 2025 midlayer, the Arden.
Now this is warmer and a bit bulkier than your average midlayer. I am 173 cm and 74kg and II tend to drift between a medium and a large in Abacus midlayers. I was pleased to be supplied with a large size which has enabled me to wear the Arden as a second layer over a polo, and also as a third layer.
The fabric is part spandex which makes for stretch and comfort when swinging. There is a half-zip construction and a protective placket. There is also a zip pocket to the right sleeve which adds some visual interest to what is a rather plain design, but is of debateable functional value. I doubt I’ll ever use it. There is little in the way of branding so this garment could just as easily be worn off the course as on it. What it lacks in looks and style, it more than makes up for in terms of warmth and functionality and I can see the Arden getting plenty of use this winter season.
Abacus is a Swedish brand that has the reputation for producing quality gear. The winter glove from Abacus comes as a pair. They are designed for cool weather golf with a promise to keep your hands dry and comfortable. The palm is constructed from cabretta suede, and the back is made from microfibre fleece.

The glove comes in no less than six sizes so you should definitely be able to find a close fit. The size supplied to me was M/L and I think I’d have been better with an M- they did just fit a little loosely. A velcro closure at the opening of the glove ensures a cosy fit. However, for me, these gloves are unlikely to find their way into my golf bag for regular winter use, because they don’t offer a sensitive enough feel for competitive golf. Maybe I’ll wear them a couple of times a year for the obligatory Christmas hit and giggle parties with a few holes of golf attached. But I’ll generally be far more likely to wear the excellent insulating Abacus Gullane mittens for warmth between shots.
Abacus is a Swedish brand that has the reputation for producing quality gear, and this Gailes cap from Abacus is a straightforward, classic looking golf cap.
It comes in a choice of two colours and also offers two sizes. There is plenty of adjustability offered courtesy of a velcro band at the back and this ensures a close fit. Plenty of ventilation at the sides mean that you won’t get hotheaded and a wide brim will keep the sun out of your eyes. A subtle logo on the right side of the peak completes the classic look.
I often find myself drawn to block coloured clothing when it comes to golf wear so this polo was a little different for me, yet I really liked the change. The all floral pattern incorporates a mixture of autumnal tones on its buttonless V neck design with cupsleeves. The material is very soft and silky to touch. Constructed from recycled material it gives enough stretch when playing as well as being breathable and drying crease free when washed. I wore this top in a medium as a uk8 and found it was the perfect comfortable fit, so would recommend sizing up.
This Borg fleece jacket from Abacus is exactly what you need on those cold autumnal/wintery mornings both on and off the golf course.
The fleece material isn’t limited to the outer of the jacket with the inside also having a soft suede lining. Zip pockets on either side are also a welcomed addition.
I wore this jacket in a medium as a Uk8 in tops. It had plenty of room to move and swing in but for a more fitted look I could have sized down.
I really enjoyed wearing this jacket out on the course, it was easy to swing in and looked great. It’s also a great garment as it works great off the course too.
This vest is a smart layering piece for cooler rounds. The quilted, wind-proof fabric across the front and back helps to block wind on tees and fairways, while the side panels and shoulders are made from stretchable fleece so no restricted swing here! The inner side panels are brushed fleece allowing you that extra warmth and softness out on the course.
The full-length front zip makes it easy to adapt to the ever changing UK weather and when zipped fully up, you can see a nice little Abacus logo feature at the top. The two zip pockets are a nice practical touch for tees or scorecards. With it being a vest you will probably need to layer up with a long sleeved base layer underneath when the weather gets even colder, that’s if you are brave enough to face the cold! Overall it is a versatile and stylish piece for them autumn golf rounds all while providing good mobility and protection.
Abacus have plenty of quality winter golf clothes for both male and female golfers. Need a trusty pullover? They have you covered. Want to keep your hands warm between hots? They have some comfy golf gloves. Need some winter trousers? Look no further.
