‘Heartbreaking to watch’: Brutal pin position causes chaos at girls’ championship

Watch the brutal footage as utter carnage erupted on the final hole at a state tournament in Iowa

We all feel aggrieved every now and again because of that one ridiculous pin position that doesn’t seem quite fair. But imagine a flag placement so brutal it makes a carding a double bogey feel like you’ve actually got away with one…

Well at a girls’ state championship tournament in Iowa, competitors were left tormented on the par-4 18th after a near-impossible pin position produced an astounding average score of 4-over-par. Yes, a quadruple bogey. On average.

At this point you’re probably thinking how on earth is that possible, but fortunately Jake Brend was on hand to share footage of the carnage which ensued on the final hole at River Valley.

In what makes for uncomfortable viewing, and what wouldn’t look out of place during a round of crazy golf, you can see the frustration boiling as player after player slightly misses the cup, only to see their ball meander off the green in a series of disastrous clips.

The footage shows the pin positioned right at the peak of an extremely steep slope, which, as Brend notes left players with “no chance”, as efforts coming up just a couple inches short trundled way off the green.

Brend also reported that he saw a number of 10-putts with some groups taking up to 30 minutes on the green. Brutal.

The video has since gone viral on social media, with fans left both outraged and amused by the devilish pin position. Here are some of our favourite reactions…
