What’s new? How much does it cost? And, what are the performance gains? Max McVittie brings you the lowdown on the new TaylorMade Qi4D drivers.
TaylorMade has unveiled its fastest and most fittable family of drivers to date with the launch of the Qi4D range.
It seems golf is becoming increasingly more athletic. The better players tend to hit the gym more often and speed seems to be a common denominator that a lot of golfers find themselves working on.
After all, more speed means more distance. Therefore, these new TaylorMade drivers might be the ideal solution for the modern game. They are engineered to help golfers swing the club faster and unlock more distance.
But, how exactly do they achieve this? Find out in our technology breakdown…
To help unlock this extra bit of speed off the tee, TaylorMade has introduced a new carbon face. Carbon is lighter than titanium which has allowed the brand to mover weight more efficiently around the club head.
TaylorMade’s testing showed that carbon faces are also more durable. Named The New Face of Fast, it has a reengineered roll radius across the face improves spin consistency on shots struck high or low, narrowing the gap between centre strikes and mishits.Â
In essence, golfers will see a more predictable launch off their driver face as well as consistent distances and ball flight.
The speed focus doesn’t stop there. These drivers also incorporate a cut-through speed-pocket which has been developed using Finite Element Analysis.
It helps to retain ball speeds on strikes that are hit lower off the face.
TaylorMade’s proven 60x Carbon Twist Face™ technology is also featured throughout the lineup. By subtly adjusting loft in the heel and toe, Twist Face helps reduce side spin on mishits, promoting straighter drives and tighter dispersion downrange.
Elsewhere, the shaping of the new Qi4D drivers has been sufficiently refined. TaylorMade believe they have been able to maximise aerodynamic efficiency after hundred of advanced simulations. This is all whilst retaining a confidence inspiring look at address.

TaylorMade Qi4D Drivers: The Line-up
As part of TaylorMade’s Qi4D driver range they have released three models; the Qi4D, Qi4D LS and the Qi4D Max.
Qi4D Driver
Looks: Equipped with an aerodynamically efficient, confidence-inspiring shape.
Main Attributes: It was designed with extensive Tour feedback taken into account.
Who is it for?:
Qi4D LS
Looks: Qi4D LS is the fastest, lowest-spinning head in the lineup.
Main Attributes: Is the lowest spinning driver and is the one you may see most often on tour.
Who is it for?: For players looking to swing their driver as fast possible.
Qi4D Max
Looks: The collar of the Qi4D Max consists of forged and machined aircraft-grade 7075 aluminium.
Main Attributes: TAS weights allow golfers to tailor flight and spin to their individual swing.
Who is it for?: Golfers looking for maximum forgiveness from their driver.
Qi Max Lite
Looks: An ultralight driver. The head, shaft and grip are all the lightest in the Qi4D family.
Main Attributes: A real focus on a lighter weight to insure faster speeds for more golfers.
Who is it for?: Ideal for golfers looking to maximise club head speed.
