There’s a strong field as Europe’s finest head to Germany. Barry Plummer has everything you need to know, from TV times to betting tips

Well, follow that one, Germany. The Dutch Open was stolen away from Ryan Fox thanks to the sorcery wielded by Victor Perez’s putter when it mattered. With a stellar field this week, there is sure to be plenty more drama on the cards and I believe I have found three great picks to get you started. But before I get into my free golf betting tips…

  • PGA TOUR PREVIEW: Memorial Tournament

Porsche European Open details

Venue: Green Eagle Golf Courses (North Course), Germany

Date: June 2-5, 2022

Course stats: Par 72; 7,544 yards

Course summary: Despite this tricky track being relatively open, do not be deceived about the challenges that face the players, with water in-play on 17 holes. Large, undulating, well-bunkered greens sprawl across the landscape, with five par-5s for players to gamble on. Players will need strong approach play and creative putting to negotiate the undulations on the greens, with the winning score yet to exceed 14-under-par on this course.

Purse: €1.2 million

Defending champion: Marcus Armitage (-8)

How to watch

Thursday: Sky Sports Golf from 12pm

Friday: Sky Sports Golf from 12pm

Saturday: Sky Sports Golf from 12pm

Porsche European Open golf betting tips

Bazza’s Banker: Pablo Larrazabal @ 28/1 with Bet365

Prior to a disappointing effort at the PGA Championship recently, Larrazabal had been in excellent form with two wins and two top-5 finishes in his last six starts. This course is another that will suit the Spaniards game, ranking in the top-40 on tour for SG: Approach and SG: Tee-to-green and the top-10 for SG: Putting, and Scrambling.

A 7th place finish on this track in 2019 is also encouraging, and while all good things must come to an end in the world of golf, this run on the DP World Tour doesn’t appear to be slowing down just yet.

The Each-Way Play: Thorbjorn Olesen @ 40/1 with Bet365

From one recent winner to another, and this time in the form of Olesen. The Dane took the Betfred British Masters in style at the Belfry, and I don’t see why he cannot follow Pablo’s example and grab a second win in quick succession.

Olesen has a great skill set for this track, and despite his stats being a bit uninspiring, he is in great form and has gained strokes on the field for SG: Approach and SG: Putting this season. Four consecutive finishes in the top-33, culminating in that win last time out, is enough for me to chance him this week at a reasonable price.

The Long Shot: Max Kieffer @ 125/1 with Bet365

After sneaking into the top-15 in the Netherlands last week, I cannot resist a speculative tipple on Kieffer. His performance last week, along with a 9th place finish in the UAE earlier this year, suggest he isn’t far away from finding something – and after coming close on a number of occasions last year he could represent value.

Kieffer will obviously get some home support from the German crowds this week, and while he may not win the event – he certainly has the game to go close at a big price.
