It’s a new venue as the DP World Tour’s UAE swing moves to Al Hamra for two weeks. Barry Plummer has everything you need to know

Al Hamra Golf Club

I will put my hands up and say that last week’s tips were somewhat underwhelming in terms of their overall performance, but after a strong start to the season that was bound to happen eventually. The great thing about the DP World Tour Schedule is that we have another chance to get back on the horse, and this week that comes in the shape of the Ras Al Khaimah Championship. This new event on the circuit is hosted at the same venue as the 2018 Challenge Tour Grand Final, so we have a slither of recent data to give us an insight to what to expect. But before we get into my golf betting tips…

Ras Al Khaimah Championship details

Venue: Al Hamra Golf Club, UAE

Date: February 3-6, 2022

Course stats: Par 72; 7,325 yards

Course summary: This new tour venue is our home for the next two weeks. The Peter Harradine design follows the trend of previous weeks, with exposed fairways, desert landscapes, perilous water hazards, and a coastal feel. Recent form looks to be a good indicator for success here.

Purse: $2 million

Defending champion: N/A (inaugural event)

Ras Al Khaimah Championship: TV coverage

Thursday: Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event from 8.30am
Friday: Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event from 8.30am
Saturday: Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event from 8.30am
Sunday: Sky Sports Golf from 8.30am and Sky Sports Main Event from 11am

Ras Al Khaimah Championship golf betting tips

Bazza’s Banker: Romain Langasque- 2.5pt e/w @ 25/1 with Bet365

Langasque was a name the immediately jumped off the page for me when analysing the betting markets this week. The Frenchman finished 4th in the 2018 Challenge Tour Grand Final on this course, and has started the season well with an 18th and 12th place finish in his two starts to date.

Langasque also has some interesting form in Abu Dhabi, another Harradine design, finishing T16 in the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. In that same event, Langasque ranked 23rd for SG: Approach and 22nd for Greens-in-regulation, something I believe will be important at Al Hamra.

The Each-Way Play: Alexander Bjork – 1.5pt e/w @ 33/1 with Bet365

Bjork ended last season in great form, and looks to have carried that forwards after finishing T20 at the Abu Dhabi Championship two weeks ago. His 2nd-place finish at the DP World Tour Championship will have caught the eye of many, and his T6 finish on another Harradine course at the 2019 Qatar Masters also adds value to this pick.

in 2021, Bjork was 15th for SG: Approach and 3rd for SG: Putting, as well as ranking in the top 20 for SG: Putting in each of the first two events of this new season. With little information to go off with regards to the course, Bjork represents a good balance between recent form and performances on correlating courses.

The Long Shot: George Coetzee – 1pt e/w @ 100/1 with Bet365

My final pick is a five-time DP World Tour winner, who quite frankly looks overpriced at a three figures. Coetzee hasn’t has the most blistering of starts this season, but he does have some interesting form on other Harradine courses. The South African was 11th in Abu Dhabi last season, and was 2nd in Doha in 2019, outlining how well he can play on these types of tracks.

His strength at the start of this season has been from the tee box, ranking 32nd in both events for SG: Off-the-tee. His putting also improved in Dubai last week, so we could well be about to see Coetzee click into gear and secure a sixth title on the DP World Tour.
