You could say it’s too early to contemplate betting on golf in this new year.

Form can fluctuate and fortunes can change even up to a week before a tournament gets underway.

But we want to get ahead of the curve and give you a couple of selections to consider as we enter the new year

We enjoyed watching several breakthrough stars last season such as Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg, and the consolidation of the top three players on the planet.

The markets are a touch sparse as we’re looking months ahead, but golf’s biggest events are priced up and ready, so why not search for some value?

NCG has racked its collective brains to gather the best golf betting tips it can muster for 2024:

Golf betting tips: 2024 season

Viktor Hovland to win a major

Viktor Hovland came of age on the PGA Tour in 2023. He beat Denny McCarthy in a playoff at the Memorial Tournament, then won the BMW Championship on his way to securing the FedEx Cup.

He’s now won six times on the US circuit and played a pivotal part in helping Europe win the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone.

The young Norwegian is certainly ready to win a major in 2024 and can be backed at 12/5 to do so.

Fancy the smiley-faced assassin to win the Masters at Augusta National? He’s given a 12/1 shot right now.

Rory McIlroy to win at Valhalla – again

Who would’ve thought after winning the PGA Championship at Valhalla in 2014, Rory McIlroy wouldn’t lift another major trophy to this day?

The Northern Irishman won his fourth major title, and his second of that year, beating Phil Mickelson by one shot as darkness descended in Louisville.

Many a pound note has been lost by backing McIlroy at majors in the last decade, and there’s no doubt punters will be returning for more when McIlroy returns to the scene of his last triumph.

He is 10/1 to win the 2024 PGA Championship.

Europe to win the Solheim Cup

Europe has now remained unbeaten for three consecutive Solheim Cups after they shared a 14-14 stalemate at Finca Cortesin.

The blue and gold side have won twice in their last three trips to the United States. This stands them in good stead to take the trophy again at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in September.

You can barely split America and Europe in the odds for the Solheim Cup, but the USA retain narrow favouritism.

With several stars rising through Europe’s ranks such as Celine Boutier, Leona Maguire, Linn Grant and Maja Stark, you certainly wouldn’t bet against them remaining unbeaten for an unprecedented fourth time.

Europe’s odds are 11/8.

Ludvig Aberg to win a major

This may be a step too far, but would you be that surprised if Ludvig Aberg became a major champion in 2024?

The young Swede won the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour earlier this year and looked like a champion for the majority of the week at Wentworth.

His stock continues to rise as he appears on the cusp of the world’s top 50 having won on the PGA Tour for the first time too.

Aberg, who made his Ryder Cup debut for Europe in Rome, is currently 11/2 to win one of golf’s big four events next season.

The only way is up for this college ace who seems unfazed by pressure and expectation.
