Rory McIlroy Aims Attack at LIV Players Ahead of 2023 Ryder Cup

Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy has taken a swipe at LIV players ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup, providing further evidence of the star’s dissatisfaction with the breakaway tour. With the premier golf tournament just over a month away it’s clear that a fair amount of bad blood still exists between those who chose to join the LIV tour and those who steered clear of the seemingly infinite riches that it offers.

On the topic of United States captain Zach Johnson being able to pick those who signed up with the LIV tour, McIlory was deliberately dismissive.

When initially asked about the possibility of such a situation, McIlroy stated coyly;

“What guys?” before adding on whether the participation of LIV players mattered;

“No. I don’t think it would make a difference for us.”

The Ryder Cup, an event that rolls around every two years, always leads to a flurry of betting activity, and if you are looking to back Europe or the United States, then why not check out this list of the best golf betting sites in order to find the brand that offers the best odds and most lucrative payouts?

On those who could be selected, it appears that Johnson has had no communication with

in-form Bryson DeChambeau, as confirmed by a recent report that revealed;

“I just spoke with Bryson DeChambeau, and he has had zero communication from Zach Johnson about being on this year’s Ryder Cup team.”

“In my opinion, this is a neglect of duty. It’s literally his job to scout all the best golfers in the country to make the strongest team possible.”

“Bryson shot a historic 119 for 36 holes, including a 58, at a golf course that used to host a PGA Tour event.”

“He also came T4 in the PGA Championship.”

“You would think the Team USA captain would at least give him a call.”

Brooks Koepka does look likely to be included in Johnson’s selection but could be the only

LIV player to do so, according to comments made by the United States skipper;

“I only get to see them [LIV Golf League players] on the major championship scene.

“There has not been much communication; I mean, if I’m going to be fully transparent.”

“But it’s hard because I’m not able to witness what they are doing and see their form with the exception of three or four weeks a year.”

“What Brooks has done this year is, I mean no one is surprised, but it’s remarkable. I think he played okay last year in a couple of the majors which counted in the points too, but I’m just glad he’s healthy. There was a time where he was really concerned about his tenure and time in golf. He’s a stud.”

The 2023 Ryder Cup, the 44th edition of the competition, will take place between the 29th of September and the 1st of October at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, which is located in the Guidonia region of Rome, Italy.

It’s 30 years since the United States won a Ryder Cup that took place outside their shores, and they will need to be at their best to end that lengthy drought this time around.
