England Golf release revised championship schedule
A new championship calendar outlined by England Golf could see a bumper late summer of elite amateur action – with the Brabazon Trophy, and English men’s amateur and women’s amateur championships, all staged within weeks of each other.
The governing body have issued a revised schedule for its 2020 events and aim to start the week beginning July 27.
An England Golf statement said the new schedule remained “provisional and subject to further change in accordance with the latest government and expert medical advice on the COVID-19 outbreak”.
They added the priority “at this time remains to assist the national effort to combat the threat of Coronavirus and ensure we protect our NHS and save lives during the pandemic.”
But should the lockdown restrictions be relaxed in the coming weeks, England Golf have provisionally rescheduled 15 events for late summer and early autumn, with eight events from the original calendar staying in place.
Highlights include the English Men’s and Women’s Amateur Championships, at Woodhall Spa, from July 28 to August 2, the English Women’s Open Amateur Stroke Play, at Burnham & Berrow, from August 18 to 20 and the Brabazon Trophy, at Sherwood Forest, from August 18 to 21.
