Phil Mickelson aims for golf rebound at Shriners Open in Las Vegas
Phil Mickelson achieved just one PGA Tour win during the 2018-19 golf seasons. That victory came in February of this year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Lefty’s form was up and down last season and is still in search of a sixth major victory. Golf fans can follow Mickelson and the rest of the PGA Tour’s top players at Betting Bonus Code and wager on their favorites to win each tournament.
The 44-times PGA Tour event winner will be on hand at the Shriners Open in Las Vegas in early October desperately seeking to regain his missing form. Can Lefty rebound and start off the new PGA Tour season on a high note?
A quick start
One of the major issues with the PGA Tour is the lack of an offseason. The previous season only finished on August 25th and the new term began on September 15th. Rather than taking off the PGA’s early season tournament – the season’s best competitions don’t really start until January – Mickelson is looking to improve his performances later on by playing the early event.
Mickelson’s recent run of play on the PGA Tour has been called the “worst” of his career. According to Mickelson, he wasn’t mentally focused last season and the last six months were a struggle for him on the golf course. How bad were the last six months of golf for Mickelson? He failed to make the cut in seven out of 16 tournaments. His best finish in 2019 following his AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am win came at the Masters. There, he ended the major event in 18th place.
A strong field
Mickelson isn’t the only PGA Tour star golfer set to play in Las Vegas at the Shriners Open. World No. 1 golfer Brooks Koepka has agreed to play as well. The tournament’s defending champion Bryon Dechambeau is also set to tee off in Las Vegas at the TPC Summerlin course. Bubba Watson, Gary Woodland, and Si Woo Kim are in the tournament’s field making it a difficult tournament to win.
The field will be strong for such an early season PGA Tour event as it tees off on October 6th as the fourth overall event of the young PGA season. This year’s events winners for the first two tournaments, the Military Tribute at the Greenbrier and the Sanderson Farm Championship, show the lack of star power in the early part of the season.
Chile’s Joaquin Niemann and Colombia’s Sebastian Munoz both won the two opening tournaments, which were both their first ever PGA wins.
Mickelson believes his offseason could improve his performances this season. Lefty worked hard during the break to get in better physical shape. Mickelson lost 30 pounds thanks to his workout schedule and diet. Now lighter, Mickelson will have higher energy levels as PGA tournaments move into the later rounds.
