Often low-torque putters adopt an outlandish design, but that trend may have stopped here, as Scotty Cameron has joined the party

Zero-torque putters are definitely a trend that is red hot right now. LAB Golf has been leading the charge, along with fellow big hitters Callaway and TaylorMade. But when the biggest name in premium putters enters the scene, I think we ought to pay attention. So, we did and here at NCG we got our hands on the new Scotty Cameron low-torque putters. Here’s how I found the Scotty Cameron Studio Style Fastback OC Putter…

NCG SUMMARY

The Studio Style Fastback OC is Scotty Cameron’s answer to the low-torque movement and I do think it is one of the best yet. It delivers the stability golfers expect from modern designs, without losing the timeless feel and feedback that all golfers have come to love from the Scotty putters for what seems like an eternity now.

PROS

  • Exceptional feel
  • Consistent pace off the face

First Impressions

2025 is shaping up to be the year of the low-torque putter, with brands like LAB Golf, TaylorMade, and Odyssey already in the space. But now, Scotty Cameron – golf’s benchmark for premium putters – has entered the conversation with the Studio Style Fastback OC (Onset Center).

Scotty Cameron Studio Style Fastback OC Putter

Set down behind the ball, the Fastback OC immediately feels like a Scotty. The elegant lines, sharp alignment edges, and a familiar, understated aesthetic are all the hallmarks of a classic Scotty Cameron putter. Unlike many futuristic zero-torque shapes, this for me looks more refined than others I have previously tested. It has a clean, compact head that appeals to traditionalists.

The black shaft and Matador grip finish off a look that is modern but unmistakably Scotty.

On-course performance

Right away, distance control feels spot-on. Unlike some other low or zero-torque models, the ball doesn’t come off dead. The pace is familiar and predictable, which is essential for consistent lag putting.

The heavier head adds a pleasing sense of momentum through the stroke, yet I never found it to be cumbersome. There’s an effortless quality to the strike. The putter felt like it was doing the work for me.

I think the most notably thing about this is how beautifully it sets-up at address. Many low-torque putters appear closed because the shaft sits too far from the leading edge. Here, that gap is minimal, which, for me at least, gave the Fastback OC a more neutral, natural look.

Additionally, the Fastback OC sounds and feels exactly how you expect from a Scotty Cameron. It is soft but solid, premium without being muted. This is promoted by the carbon steel face which provides a responsive click, paired with a steady roll that gives instant feedback.

NCG Verdict

It is clear that Scotty Cameron didn’t waste the time they took to enter the low-torque market. The Studio Style Fastback OC putter bridges the gap between modern stability and classic feel, incredibly well.

I think this was a real gap in what was missing from low-torque putters already on the market. Some of them feel too clunky. But not this one. It offers the improved face control of a low-torque design without sacrificing pace feedback, touch, or looks.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
