First Impressions

At first glance, the Phantom 11R OC feels unmistakably Scotty Cameron. It’s sleek, premium, and engineered with purpose. The black shaft, matching Matador grip, and familiar Phantom look all look top class. Despite its cutting-edge low-torque design, this still looks and feels like a Scotty rather than a science project.

Scotty Cameron has always been about timeless aesthetics, and I’m pleased to say that the Phantom 11R OC continues that trend. The top-line alignment aid is long and confidence-inspiring, giving a clean, accurate look at address. It’s quite the contrast from some of the more space-age designs in the low-torque category.

On-course performance

On the greens, the Phantom 11R OC feels incredibly solid. The chain-link milling helps to deliver a familiar and consistent ball speed. This also helps to retain the Cameron feel even in this new low-torque world. Unlike many other low-torque models, which I think can sometimes feel a little dead off the face, this one rolls the ball with the pace you’d expect from a traditional Scotty.

Pace control is a clear strength. I like this approach from Scotty Cameron as I think some of the other zero torque brands have focussed too much on the face, face control and start line. There is more to putting than just how open your putter face is.

The putter’s 10-gram heavier head weight makes it feel more substantial through the putting stroke, without being overly heavy. The face feels soft yet lively, and the acoustics are spot on — a crisp, muted click that premium players will appreciate.

As for directional control, the low-torque design works subtly rather than dramatically. It won’t cure your green reading, but it does give a sense of stability through impact. Players who struggle with face rotation may find they start more putts on their intended line.

Scotty Cameron refuse to market this as a zero-torque putter, instead labelling it as low-torque. They believe this is a more realistic name. Unlike competitors who stiffen the shaft to extreme levels, the premium putter brand has kept the shaft flexibility in a more comfortable setting.

The putter also features just one degree of shaft lean which is considerably less than other zero torque options which have three or four degrees. This actually helps to promote a natural hand position that mirrors how many tour players actually set up. For me, this allowed for a more natural hand position.

NCG Verdict

It’s fair to say that Scotty Cameron’s first step into the low-torque market has been a success. If you’ve been curious about low-torque tech but are like me and been put off by the outlandish shapes, the Phantom 11R OC might be the perfect bridge. It feels like a Scotty, looks like a Scotty, and, most importantly, performs like one.
