Callaway’s Quantum Triple Diamond fairway wood is built for speed. We find out whether this low-spin rocket lives up to its tour-level billing.

This is not a fairway wood to hide mishits, offer increased levels of forgiveness or produce a draw bias ball flight. Instead, it is a tour-inspired profile designed for golfers looking to unlock a bit of extra speed.

Callaway’s latest range, the Quantum, has already experienced a bit of success out on tour with a number of people gaming the new drivers out on tour.

As part of that range they have also released a series of fairway woods and hybrids. This is their most tour friendly model of the lot.

So, does the Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond fairway wood deliver? Read our full review to find out…

Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond Fairway Wood Review : NCG Summary

Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond Fairway Wood
4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond fairway wood is the lowest launching and lowest spinning model in the Quantum range.

Ball speeds were strong, spin rates were low, and the overall flight was penetrating and powerful. While forgiveness is respectable thanks to Callaway’s AI-designed face, this is not a draw-biased or game-improvement fairway wood. It is built for golfers who strike the ball consistently and want maximum control.

PROS

  • Exceptional ball speeds across the face
  • Penetrating ball flight
  • Strong distances

CONS

  • If anything, it produces a slight fade bias which won’t be optimal for most golfers
  • $429.99

First Impressions

Callaway don’t usually miss with their aesthetics and they haven’t here either. Visually, the Quantum Triple Diamond is stunning.

The club sits really square behind the ball, there is no ball flight bias here and it’s nice to have a club that faces directly to the target. A very neutral set-up at address.

Additionally, I really like how the head shape looks balanced and compact. That being said it isn’t overly intimidating at address, certainly less so than what I was expecting which was partially thanks to the taller face, which gives reassurances off the tee.

The carbon crown is also a winner for Callaway as it is across the Quantum line. Overall, it is a fairway wood that looks every bit like a tour level product.

NCG Review

Ball speeds are a particularly strong aspect of this fairway wood. Throughout my testing the numbers in this department were all very consistent.

My well struck shots produced average ball speeds of around 150 mph, which is excellent, top-tier output for a three wood. That included at least three poor strikes that still produced effective performance.

The ball speed didn’t drop, or at least noticeably so, which is a fairly radical thing for a three-wood.

Distances and carry yardages were also really strong. I experienced some variance in my numbers but this is a club designed for a confident and clean ball striker who won’t have this sort of feedback.

Out of the centre, it is a low spinning club as you would expect from a tour styled offering. My average spin rate sat at around 200rpm, which helped to deliver these penetrating ball flights that flew off the club face. They were like mini rockets sailing through the air.

It is important to note that this club does not offer built in draw bias or excessive forgiveness.

There is some new technology that Callaway has included in the design that is worth talking about. The fairway woods feature a new Step Sole design, which is intended to reduce turf interaction and improve strike consistency.

One thing you can always count on from a Callaway metal wood is them being equipped with their Ai-Optimised face technology.

An ever staple of the brand’s line-ups that has to deliver constant ball speeds across the face.

NCG Verdict

It is a very impressive golf club. Sometimes it is that simple.

There is no doubt that this is a fairway wood that is suited to better ball strikers. I experienced a touch of fade bias during my testing which is extremely abnormal for a golf club and something that won’t be compatible for a lot of golfers swings.

If you are a high speed golfer, then I’m not sure there are many better performing or looking fairway woods than this out there.
