First impressions of the Under Armour HOVR Tour SL Wide

When first lifting the lid on the shoe box, I wasn’t keen on the colour, nor the look. The Under Armour HOVR Tour SL wide shoes looked more like a football boot.

But they grew on me. The appearance of straps and laces on the top of the shoe doesn’t only look secure, but it feels secure when you slip them on.

Although this shoe doesn’t represent Under Armour’s most extravagant design, it is simple and I like that.

The hint of red on the bottom of the shoe added some much-needed character. The design grew on me after sceptical first impressions.

On-course testing

These Under Armour golf shoes were fantastic. From the moment I put them on to the moment I walked off the 18th green, they were class.

I have very big feet – size 11 to be exact. These shoes are long and roomy and this helped to keep my feet warm and protected from the wet and muddy ground I tested them in.

The UA Intelliknit upper is designed to combine “stretch, lockdown and containment throughout your swing.”

I would say these are the perfect words to describe these shoes. The material was very stretchy and versatile which explains why my feet felt so comfortable and settled with each swing.

The lightweight waterproof membrane was clear to see and feel. It was no chore to wear these golf shoes and this was because they were so light.

Style is something I’ve certainly been accused of lacking on the golf course in the past, and no doubt in the future.

But with the “unique, adaptive” lacing system with these shoes, there was no risk of this. This lacing offered both great support and a good look.

The soft rubber spikes replaced the more traditional spike design in these shoes and this didn’t take away any grip from the soft ground.

These shoes look the part and act the part and they definitely rival Under Armour’s other headliner footwear model in the UA HOVR Drive 2 Wide shoe.

They are the most expensive shoe on the Under Armour website right now, but this should cause you no hesitation in making what would be a wise purchase.

The 19th hole

Although these shoes don’t have traditional golf spikes, I would say they’re only suited for the golf course. But the grey look is smart and could be useful for wearing out in the winter.
