Latest GPS watch from GolfBuddy is stylish, lightweight and comfortable writes James Savage

5 For me the GolfBuddy WT5 marks a ˜back to basics’ approach in terms of the look which is a massive plus for me as I found the futuristic WT4 a little too jazzy, like something out of a James Bond movie.

The WT5 is a lot lighter with it being made from plastic as apposed to it’s predecessor which was metal and a bit weighty.

With the WT5 you can barely feel it on your wrist which is exactly what I want from a GPS watch. The strap is soft and comfortable.

It’s also very stylish. I like the blue and black colours on the model I was testing and wouldn’t feel compelled to take it straight off after golf. It also comes in a white and orange design.

I’m not a ˜watch-wearer’ when not playing golf but for those who are, I think you could easily wear this simply to keep time on a day-to-day basis.

It couldn’t be easier to charge and activate the WT5. Once charged simply turn it on when you reach the golf club, select the golf function and it will pick up your course and location.

During testing we actually started on the 6th hole, not in a deliberate attempt to catch it out, and it knew where we were straight away.

The display is clean and clear with yardages to the front, middle and back of the green.

It also has pin placement technology so you can put the flag on any one of nine preset locations on the green.

There are a host of other features like scoring, distances to hazards and it is possible to track how far you have hit the ball.

It automatically and very quickly recognises when you move onto the next hole.  In conclusion, the GolfBuddy WT5 is up there with the best GPS watches on the market. It has everything you need and is one of the lightest and most comfortable I have ever tested. I wasn’t constantly aware of it while I was playing and it didn’t hinder my swing in any way. If you are a fan of GPS watches and in the market for a new one, definitely consider the WT5 as, in my opinion, it can’t be faulted. ¢ 37,000 pre-loaded courses with no subscription fee ¢ Distances to targets and hazards ¢ Distances to front/centre/back of the green ¢ Pin Placement Technology ¢ Digital scorecard ¢ Dynamic Green View ¢ Automatic course/hole recognition ¢ Shot distance measurement ¢ GPS tracking – can be used for walking and other sports ¢ IPX7 Waterproof ¢ Rechargeable battery ¢ Yards/Meters selection ¢ Watch mode For more information about GolfBuddy visit www.gpsgolfbuddy.eu.
