Still undecided on what shoes to buy in 2020? We’ve put the new Skechers golf shoes through their paces so you know what to expect

Skechers 2020 range

Skechers are renowned for comfort and boast the likes of Matt Kuchar and Brooke Henderson among their ranks. We’ve got our hands on – and feet in – the 2020 range so let’s take a closer look.

First up, Hannah checks out the women’s range…

Skechers golf shoes 2020: Go Golf Pro 2

First impressions: Straight out of the box the high structure of this shoe really caught my eye. The more simplified clean styling is also something I prefer.

The technology: This spiked shoe is designed for unparalleled traction in all conditions. The shoes are completely waterproof thanks to synthetic leather uppers. As with the rest of the Skechers range they feature the brand’s lightweight Ultra Go and Goga Max cushioning.

NCG verdict: When I’m playing a competition I want a shoe that really supports my foot and feels stable throughout the swing. The stability this shoe provided is second to none, helped by extra details such as the raised heel and more support under the arch of my foot. The sole cushioning is extremely comfortable and the spiked sole gave me great traction. Overall I was really impressed with the performance of this shoe.

RRP: £99

Colour options: Navy; White; Black

Skechers golf shoes 2020: Go Golf Walk Sport

First impressions: I think the the trainer style of this shoe will attract a lot of people especially in this attractive blue colour. Personally for me the pink laces were a bit too much for me so I swapped them for the blue pair that also come with this shoe.

Technology: Themed on Skecher’s popular athletic walking shoes this shoe is perfect for walking the golf course, rather than playing it, or for general outdoor wear. It features an ultra-lightweight design combined with the spikeless outsole and Goga Max cushioning for maximum comfort.

NCG verdict: This shoe was extremely comfortable but in a different way to the Pro 2. It is lightweight and makes you feel lower and more connected to the ground. The style of this shoe is great for those who want a casual shoe that can be worn both on and off the golf course. Personally this is a shoe I would use at the range, taking on holiday or for playing nine holes in the summer with my mates but would prefer the more supportive sole of the Pro 2 for competitions.

Skechers golf shoes 2020: Go Golf Elite 4

First impressions: I’ve always favoured keeping things simple with my golf shoes, whether classic or trainers style. I went for the navy and lime option because I have a golf jacket in the same colour scheme, but others are available.

The technology: The Elite 4 is an addition to Skechers spikeless range. It has a low-profile design to keep you closer to the ground.  Comfort is a key element of this shoe thanks to their Ultra Go and Goga max cushioning, while leather uppers offer waterproof protection.

NCG verdict: Incredibly comfortable as you’d expect, but still important to validate. And totally waterproof. I had them on for a couple of rounds in wet conditions and there were no leaks, even when trudging through rough hunting for my all too regular errant tee shots. If only my golf balls could be so well behaved.

RRP: £99

Colour options: Navy/lime; Charcoal/red; Black/white; Grey/lime; White/navy

Skechers golf shoes 2020: Go Golf Max Rover

Skechers golf shoes 2020

First impressions: Forget what I said about the classic look, I loved these from the moment I opened the box. They aren’t waterproof, but very stylish and comfortable.

The technology: Designed for ease of use the Max Rover has stretchy material around the ankles so they can be slipped on and off without worrying about the laces. The multi-material shoe has a mixture of leather and breathable knit all covered in a water-repellent coating.

Skechers golf shoes 2020

NCG verdict: I’ve been wearing these more off the course than on. Given the untimely appearances of storms Ciara and Dennis, it’s been difficult to play any more than a handful of holes at a time with these on, but I’ve been to the driving range a fair bit. They aren’t the most stable golf shoe I’ve ever worn but if you place a premium on style and comfort, then these could be perfect, especially when the weather improves.

RRP: £89

Colour options: Black; Charcoal
