First Impressions
At address, the Staff Model CB irons are almost identical to the blades from the same range. The compact head shape, minimal offset and thin top line deliver the clean, traditional look that most blades are famed for.
From heel to toe, I thought the head felt short and precise, which inspired confidence without looking overly intimidating.
The brushed satin finish is a smart touch, as it reduces glare on the few times the sun may show its face this year. It also just reinforces that classic, understated look that I am big fan of.

On the range
I thought the CB irons offered a noticeable step up in forgiveness compared to a blade, The launch, carry and spin rates were all extremely consistent, which made control distance a fairly simple task.
This is all achieved without the CBs straying into distance-iron territory and retaining that blade-like feel.
My testing showed that short irons are able to produce predictable carry yardages with high spin rates, while mid-irons showed a slight increase in ball speeds and an extra bit of launch thanks to the cavity design.
Long irons, particularly explaining the appeal of the CB, proved far more playable than a blade equivalent. The slightly larger head and redistributed mass did its job in creating a more confidence-inspiring look.
