I turned up to Titleist’s Performance Centre at Woburn this summer not to try driving irons, but to test the new T Series irons they are releasing. However, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the T200 utility iron, and I couldn’t have moved quicker in its direction to pick it up and have a waggle.
There is nothing about the design of this club that I do not love. It’s compact, you can’t see the back of it at address, and it blends really nicely with the blade-style irons I love so much. Turning up to a scratch team match and seeing your opponent with one of these in the bag would basically give them half a hole head start.
As a lifelong Titleist fanboy, I’m keen to get a Titleist utility iron in my bag. One of the guys I play a lot of golf with used to have an old 712 utility iron that went forever, I could never hit it as far, but it felt like a serious weapon.
On a hot summer’s day at Titleist’s Performance Centre at Woburn, I was right in the mood for testing utility irons after just being fit into a new set of T100 irons.
My first shot with the Titleist T200 utility iron came out like an absolute rocket. The 3 iron replacement club utilizes denser D18 tungsten weights which provides greater mass efficiency and allowed Titleist engineers to position the CG more precisely for fast, forgiving, and high-launching utility club.

I hit the ball pretty low, so I was grateful for the tungsten and low CoG. I hit a regular 3-iron pretty much waist high, and I need all the help I can get. My next few shots were all pretty much exactly the same as the first, low-powerful draws.
Every component of the multi-material hollow body construction contributes to the long, consistent distance of the T200 utility. The improved ‘Max Impact Technology’ (a high resilience polymer core behind the sweet spot) improves both off-centre speed and mass efficiency at impact across a forged, high COR SUP-10 L-Face Insert.
Just look at my Trackman data! I am overjoyed with an average carry of 227 yards, and 245 total distance is epic, and to do it with an average of 4000rpm backspin is the cherry on the cake. I usually see bad shots that go left and don’t spin, so these numbers excite me.
I have hit a few shots out of the semi-rough with this club, and I did struggle to keep the height and spin on the shots. This might move me more towards the U505 utility club with it being just that bit bigger and more forgiving. If I was just going to use this club from the tee or just fairway then it wouldn’t really matter.
There are also a number of lofts available, coming in 2,3,4 long iron replacement heads. Although this club is tour inspired with a thin top line, short blade length and narrow sole, it is not just for good players. It is pretty easy to hit, and with the different shaft options available, there will be a set-up that suits your game.
