First Impressions

Straight out of the box, I think the Pro L5 makes a statement with its minimalist design and its simplicity of use. Available in crisp white or sleek black, it’s clean, compact, and thoughtfully constructed. One of its most appreciated features is the built-in magnet that allows it to snap securely onto a buggy. It’s surprisingly reliable, once you get over the initial fear of it falling off, you’ll find it’s incredibly handy and saves time during your round.

NCG Review

While many rangefinders attempt to be all things to all players, the Pro L5 feels like it’s not overly busy. I found during my testing that it focuses on providing fast and accurate distances above all else, which I’m all for. And it delivers, thanks in no small part to its standout OLED display. For me, the display was impressively bright and legible even under direct sunlight. There’s no more squinting needed to work out whether you’re seeing a 7 or a 2.

Another highlight of this rangefinder is Shot Scope’s Rapid-Fire Detection technology, which makes getting the right distance for each shot almost foolproof. In testing, I felt the Pro L5 consistently locked onto the flag without picking up background objects which all golfers know is an all-too-common frustration with some devices. It’s easily the most reliable rangefinder I have used in this regard.

Slope adjustment is also included and easily switched on or off to suit competitive play. Readings can be switched between yards and meters, and the unit has a range of up to 1300 yards. This may be well beyond what most of us will ever need hitting into a green, with a bit of luck, but good to know it’s there.

NCG Verdict

Overall the Shot Scope Pro L5 doesn’t try to be flashy, it is super simple to use. It’s fast, simple, accurate, and thoughtfully engineered for real-world golfers. For players looking for a dependable rangefinder without the fuss, this ticks all the boxes. Add in a two-year warranty and included batteries, and you’ve got one of the best value laser rangefinders on the market.
