Callaway Rogue ST Max OS hybrid review: First Impressions
I tested this club shortly after using the Rogue ST Pro hybrid, so I was looking forward to seeing the contrasts not only in looks but also performance in the clubs. The Rogue ST MAX OS hybrid has an iron-like design with some offset to help stop the ball from curving to the right. It looks MASSIVE behind the ball and when I took my stance I couldn’t help but feel like I was going to hit a powerful draw.

Callaway designed the Rogue ST MAX OS hybrid for players that struggle with their irons and need help getting the ball up towards the green in fewer strokes. In my opinion, they have nailed it. Although I am not a regular hybrid user I was amazed at how powerful the Rogue ST MAX OS feels from not only the centre but also hits more towards the toe and heel.
I couldn’t believe the distances and ball speeds this hybrid was producing. To average 140mph ball speed with a 3 iron replacement club is unheard of for me, and an average carry of 223.7 actually would be too long for my current bag set-up. The A.I. that Callaway have used to design the face combined with the Jailbreak Seed Frame has created a club where the ball rockets off the face.
My only concern with this club was it launched pretty low and didn’t spin enough for me. This club is so hot that I wouldn’t feel particularly comfortable hitting this into greens like I would my actual 3 iron. This might not be an issue for a higher handicapper who just wants more consistent distance, in which case this is the perfect club.

The Callaway Rogue MAX OS hybrid is available in options in 3 iron all the way down to 8 iron, which again I think is a real win for high handicap players. Y.E Yang beat Tiger in the 2009 PGA Championship with 4 hybrids in the bag so there’s no reason to add one or two in your bag, as you will be more consistent with a hybrid than a long iron.
I hit the Rogue ST MAX OS hybrid with the Tensei AV Blue 65 HB/IR shaft in regular, and it felt great. Although the club did go miles on test, it was too erratic for me to put straight into the bag. I would want to test other loft and shaft options to find the fit that performs consistently for me, as I do find myself at 215-230 on short par 5s where I need accuracy over raw power.
Overall, this is a great option for all golfers, especially those that slice the ball and need an option at the top end of the bag that goes further. All players need distance and forgiveness on off-centre hits and the Rogue ST Max OS hybrid comes with plenty, as well as great speed on centre strikes.
