NCG SUMMARY
The Wilson Staff Model X is a premium four-piece urethane-covered golf ball designed for golfers seeking tour-level performance at a more affordable price. Positioned as Wilson’s alternative to mainstream tour balls like the Titleist Pro V1x, this model offers plenty of spin.
The Wilson Staff Model X is a fantastic golf ball for players with decent clubhead speed who value spin, control, and feel without breaking the bank. It is by no means the longest ball off the tee, but its combination of high spin, soft feel, and exceptional short-game control makes it one of the best tour-level options available at this price point.
PROS
- Golfers seeking a high-spin tour-level ball
- Players who prioritize control into and around the greens
- Those with a moderate to high swing speed who want a firmer-feeling ball
- Value-conscious golfers who don’t want to pay Pro V1 prices
CONS

Wilson 2025 Staff Model X Golf Ball Review: First Impressions
The ball’s design closely resembles the standard Wilson Staff Model, with the only noticeable difference being a red number instead of black. Although this isn’t the biggest of visual changes it may be an aesthetic choice that some golfers may prefer. It has a firmer compression than the standard Staff Model, which means it delivers a slightly longer distance off the tee for players with faster swing speeds.
NCG Verdict
Off the putter face, the Wilson Staff Model X golf ball delivered an outstanding feel and even arguably the best in its class. The sound and roll are exceptional, giving players confidence on the greens. Additionally, the short game performance is rounded off on the greens. The spin control is phenomenal, thanks to Wilson’s ultra-thin urethane cover.

Wedge spin numbers were the highest I recorded in testing this year, as I averaged 8,000 RPM, which allowed for exceptional stopping power and even the occasional spin-back shot.
With a 7-iron, the ball maintained excellent spin rates at an average of 6,300 RPM during my testing session. This resulted in more control and a steeper descent into the green. Players who prioritize stopping power will appreciate the extra bite.

Off the driver, ball speeds were the fastest I recorded in testing, reaching 164.5 mph. The average spin rate I mustered of 2,700 RPM is slightly on the high side but contributes to added control. While the carry distance average of 272 yards and the total distance average of 291 yards, evident below, might not make it the longest ball available. However, I found the consistency, control, and overall playability more than make up for it.

Final Verdict
Wilson has nailed it with the Staff Model X. It’s a firmer, high-spinning ball that excels in greenside control, iron precision, and driver consistency. Golfers who generate faster club head speeds and want a Tour-quality ball at a fraction of the cost should give this a serious look.
For those seeking Tour-level performance without paying Pro V1 prices, the Staff Model X is a game-changer. It offers arguably the best price-to-performance ratio on the market.
