TaylorMade Distance Plus Golf Ball Review: NCG Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The TaylorMade Distance Plus golf ball represents a brilliant budget golf ball for those looking to increase their distances. Equipped with new technologies, including the all-new React Speed Core, this golf ball produces a low spinning and penetrating ball flight.

Like the name suggests, it’s with the driver or woods in hand where it comes to life. If you can live without tour-level greenside spin then this is a fantastic option for any club golfer.

PROS

  • Plenty of distance off the tee
  • A low, penetrating ball flight
  • Great value

CONS

First Impressions

It is obvious that this is a distance golf ball straight away. It felt quite firm, especially off the putter face with a fairly hard sound. The lack of urethane cover and the strong durability of the golf ball are no doubt big contributing factors to this feel.

Although, this golf ball can be utilised by all club golfers it favours golfers who have more moderate swing speeds.

NCG Review

The Distance Plus features TaylorMade’s all-new React Speed Core and an updated aerodynamic dimple pattern. This new technological additions are engineered to reduce spin and promote a longer, more penetrating ball flight. Additionally, with a compression rating of 77, it’s not ultra-soft, but it’s still approachable for moderate swing speeds looking for added distance.

One standout feature is the alignment aid. It’s simple but I found it genuinely helpful on the greens. Whether you’re lining up a birdie putt or just trying to two-putt for bogey, the bold visual guide certainly brought some extra confidence to my stroke. It’s also available in a range of vibrant colours for those who like a bit of flair in their game.

Off the tee, is where the Distance Plus really shone for me. During testing, my driver produced impressively consistent ball speeds of around 159–160 mph, with the spin averaging 2100 rpm. This was optimal data for me in being able to produce more distance off the tee. I was able to record a very healthy 276 yards of carry and a total rollout of 298 yards, which are standout numbers for a ball at this price.

Moving into the irons and with a 7-iron in hand, the performance still remained strong. Ball speeds hit 117–119 mph with spin rates around 6000 rpm. This was a solid for a two-piece construction. My carry distances hovered around 163 yards, so there was no issues getting the ball up to the green from the fairway.

The only place I thought the TaylorMade golf ball revealed its budget roots was around the greens. Off the wedge, spin dropped to about 4400 rpm. It’s not going to give you that “drop and stop” finesse shot, but if greenside spin isn’t top of your priority list, it’s only a minor compromise.

Overall, the TaylorMade Distance Plus is a fantastic golf ball. If you can live without tour-level greenside spin, then you will be treated to an unbeatable mix of distance, consistency, and value. A great option in the budget ball category.
