One of Callaway’s latest releases in the bag department is the Hyperlite Zero stand bag. This arrived in a silver colour which presented well – it is also available in two further colourways, black and ‘green tropics’ (both of which also look smart but I’m not sure I am a stylish enough golfer to feel comfortable with the green tropic version).
This is Callaway’s lightest bag they’ve ever produced weighing just 2.9lbs or 1.3kgs for the metric readers amongst us. My first thought when feeling the weight and hearing how much it weighs was ‘is this at the expense of a higher quality material?’. Pleasingly it wasn’t, there’s no notable difference from any other bag I have used in the past.
Despite the bag being Callaway’s lightest ever, it hasn’t been built by compromising storage. With 9 pockets in total, you certainly aren’t weighing up not taking a sandwich or spare waterproof.
A large apparel space for extra clothing, multiple smaller accessory and valuable’s pockets all easily accessible for the – ‘double check I haven’t dropped my car key on the 10th!’.
There is also space for bottles of water in the bag and a small slip pocket for smaller bottle that can be easily grabbed on your walk up to the next tee.
Even with 9 pockets of storage, 4 full length club dividers and a tonne of technology the bag is still remarkably compact and functional.

On the venn diagram of golfers who leave their clubs in the boot of their car, those who don’t and then those who go through phases – I am firmly in the camp of leaving them in my car at the off chance an impromptu round of golf comes up (this happens once a year but it’s the hope that keeps them there).
With this in mind, I like my golf bags to be slim and minimally invasive to the rest of my limited boot space which the Hyperlite Zero fulfils nicely. The whole bag is really compact, even with the storage included the pockets don’t stick out making it really simple to store.
The whole bag looks great, Callaway’s branding is subtle and well placed, the pocket zips are simple and the entire bag is designed with just two colours, the one of choice (in this case silver) and simple black trims for the pocket zips, legs and the linings around the bag.
Now, onto the course…
The four-hole divider is a good start, it allows plenty of space for all 14 clubs with ample separation for however you like to divide your clubs in the bag. Callaway have also installed a ‘4-way shaft shield’ which is basically a hardened rubber material to reduce any risk of damaging the shaft of your clubs when they’re shuffling around. The pocket offers simple organisation, multiple options for your golfing accessories, valuables, beverage pockets and the standard large apparel pocket for your waterproof & waterproof hood.
Moving around the course is great, the straps are extremely comfortable which is something I genuinely haven’t considered could be an option for a golf bag so it has been quite the revelation. The bag’s name, ‘Hyperlite’ really comes into its own as well, there is a noticeable difference in weight on your back which is appreciated when lugging around those extra layers in the cold British weather.

The fold out mechanism is really good and helps the bag feel secure when planted on the floor. The technical term for it is a ‘flex pod base’ which admittedly I haven’t considered as an area of a bag that can be improved but it is noticeably different and comforting how secure the bag is when stood to the side.
In the rounds I have played with the bag it hasn’t been particularly windy of late but I am sure it would have no issue standing up to it (no pun intended).
On the flip side of this, the legs also fold away and store really well. They stay tucked nicely to the bag when being carried and also help for a smooth transition of stacking the bag away in the boot of your car.
A rain hood comes as part of the bag and matches the main colourway. It is very quick and easy to attach, looks smart and folds away neatly taking up minimal space.
I would recommend the bag as suitable all year around. It is made of wipeable material, durable and storage to take all necessary layers for the winter. That recommendation does come with the small caveat…… maybe opt for a darker colourway to avoid any frustrating marks.
In summary, I think this is a quality carry bag to consider if you’re in the market for a new golf bag. Plenty of storage, surprisingly lightweight and very comfortable, it will certainly get some use from myself in the season ahead.
