Ping Oria midlayer review: First impressions

The full zip design of the Ping Oria midlayer features a small silver Ping logo on the left upper sleeve. Unlike most collections Ping offers the Oria in three different prints rather than just altering the colourways. The design I tested was the black/white multi, where the main body of the jacket is black with white panels with a black floral design. The design is finished off with thumb holes on the ends of the sleeves and zipped pockets.

From unpacking the Oria you could tell how stretchy it was. The fabric is made up from elastane and polyester, some of which is made from recycled content.

Ping Oria midlayer review: On course testing

The Oria midlayer was very practical on the course. The full zip made it very easy to get on and off as a cap wearer. The two pockets are also a great depth and have zips which is handy for keeping my tees and marker secure when swinging and bending down.

Having taken the Oria jacket off and storing it in my bag for 9 holes there was little to no creasing which was great.

The fit of the Oria mid layer was spot on. I got my standard size a UK 12 and it was definitely true to size. The sleeves were a great length and so was the body. I liked that it wasn’t clinging to me and that there was room to move and swing freely. The fabric make up containing elastane also helped during the swing as the material moved with you.

As a spring/summer piece the Oria isn’t the thickest mid layer on that Ping offer but it does still offer a reasonable amount of heat. The elasticity of the jacket means that it works well layering a base layer under it, on those slightly cooler spring rounds.

Ping Oria midlayer review: The 19th hole

I love the practicality of this jacket. The zip pockets, full zip and great fabric make it a great garment.

Whilst I like the design of the midlayer I would feel more comfortable wearing it on the fairways than on the streets.
