5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

J Lindeberg are a fashion brand first and foremost, so you can be assured that whatever you order from them will look great on and off the golf course.

This knitted sweater is a light layer perfect for summer; it can be slipped into the bag when it warms up in the morning and equally put back on when it cools into the evening.

PROS

  • Simple, smart design.
  • Comfortable to wear.
  • Good range of colours.

CONS

  • Quite a small slim fitting; some golfers may need to size up

First Impressions

I have always been a J Lindeberg fan. In fact, I can remember the first JL waterproof jacket I ever had, and I may even still have it. Their fit seems to suit my slender frame, so I’ve always had a small collection of it. One thing you notice with the brand is they only ever seem to be in the pro shops of top clubs.

I tested the white version of the Gus knitted sweater in my desperate attempt to make 2023 the year I don’t just wear black and navy. If you wanted some brighter options, J Linderberg obviously provides them with russet orange and firey red great options, and more classic JL navy and black are also available.

Putting it on, it is much lighter than I thought a knitted sweater could be. It hugs me in all the right places and hangs off my frame well. I really like the high-ribbed crew neck and sleeve collars.

Having sleeves that aren’t fitted and hang over my wrists and hands to the point I have to readjust them before taking my grip makes a garment a non-starter. This mid-layer ticks all the boxes for me before getting out onto the golf course.

On The Course

I am 178cm ( 5ft 10) tall and weigh anywhere between 69-73kg depending on how much running and eating I am doing. In shirts and jumpers, slim fit generally suits me best, and I vary between a medium and a small, depending on the brand. Knowing that JL generally tends to size slightly small, I ordered a medium that fits perfectly.

The Gus sweater is comfortable next to the skin and to swing in. It fits closely, and with it being JL’s lightest knit blend, after a while, you can’t really tell you are wearing it. There is obviously no restriction in movement whilst wearing it.

I wore this on a sunny day up at Gullane in Scotland, and it was the perfect garment for the occasion. It got warm, so I slipped it into my pencil bag and barely noticed the added weight. As the sun set and the temperature cooled, I slipped it back on to finish the game.

The 19th hole

There are two logos on the sweater, one on the chest and the other on the back. I like that they are not huge and don’t scream golf to people. J Lindeberg is, of course, a fashion brand.

I wore this sweater straight into the pub after my game at Gullane, and it did not look out of place. This jumper is not clearly golfy in any way, so it could quite easily be worn with a pair of jeans out for lunch in town without question.

I quite often wear this jumper just casually now around the office and out to the pub and could quite easily have another couple in different colours in the wardrobe. My only concern is I have a big black dog, and the white version is quite tricky to keep clean!
