Check out our exclusive review of 2017’s best golf waterproofs!

Each year at National Club Golfer we do a thorough test of all the latest waterproof suits from all the biggest brands.

In previous years, the weather has let us down and we’ve had to resort to soaking ourselves with a hosepipe before hitting the course. Funny that it never rains when you want it to¦

This year however was a different story. The forecast was great and when I say great I mean it was wet, really wet.

We did loops of four holes at Moor Allerton in Leeds testing out the following suits:

Summary/Conclusion

For this test we had to ask ourselves the question – if it was chucking it down for 18 holes, what would we want to be wearing?

There are many superb lightweight suits here which are great for whipping out of the bag when caught in a shower. But if you are a serious golfer who wants to play all year-round,
no matter the conditions, you need a suit that’s up to the job.

We still think Galvin Green are ahead of the game.

With Under Armour finally reaching the conclusion that Gore-Tex is the way forward, FootJoy raising their game and the likes of Oscar Jacobsen also in the market, this is now a seriously competitive sector.

Galvin suits, while expensive, have so many great features like the reinforced fabric at the bottom of the trouser legs to ensure you will never rip them.

The fit is still better than anything else no loose fabric but equally no compromise in freedom of movement.

Under Armour have a suit this year which blends ultimate performance and style. It feels like it would withstand a hurricane but is flexible enough not to restrict movement.

Both the FootJoy DryJoy Select and Ping Tour Eye are light and stylish making them the best waterproof offerings in our eyes from the respective brands in some time.

The offerings from Oscar Jacobsen, Puma and Chervo were all worthy of a mention as they were the jackets which performed and looked great on the course but we also felt they would get plenty of use off the course as well.

All the suits featured here did a great job of keeping the rain out as you’d expect and they all carry waterproof guarantees.
